The word "inertia" I first heard in childhood. My father was an avid chess lover. And if any chess player came to our house, my father immediately took out a massive box made of palm wood. Chess was kept there, also made of palm trees, and the lid served as a board. It was a prize received for winning some kind of tournament. And all evening the father and the guest, carried away by the game, remained deaf and dumb, did not answer questions, did not hear when they were called to supper.

This made my mother very angry. She liked everything to be done on time, so that the guests kept up an interesting conversation and, in any case, sat down at the table at the first call. And then one day, when dinner had cooled down completely, and both chess players only mumbled something incomprehensible in response to all the calls, my mother in despair grabbed the edge of the tablecloth on which the palm box stood and pulled with all her strength.

Mom wanted to stop the hated game. But what was her astonishment when the tablecloth easily pulled out from under the drawer, and the chess set did not even move!

Chess and inertia

Mom was dumbfounded with a tablecloth in her hands. The chess players looked at her and burst out laughing. Here and at mum all anger has passed or has taken place. She started laughing too.

- You see, - said the father, wiping his tears from laughter. - You see what inertia means!
- Yeah... - Mom answered. - And you have no less inertia than your chess. You won't be moved either!

And we sat down to dinner. And I kept thinking: "What is this - inertia? And why didn't chess fall?"

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Processors Zhaoxin KaiXian KX-6780A and KX-U6880A 03.02.2020

The Chinese company Zhaoxin introduced the new KaiXian KX-6780A and KX-U6880A processors, which some Chinese PC manufacturers are positioning as "solutions for DIY enthusiasts", that is, for those who want to build a computer themselves.

The KaiXian KX-6780A processor features Zhaoxin's own eight LuJiaZui cores that support SSE 4.2 and AVX instructions, as well as virtualization and encryption technologies. The clock speeds of the cores are not specified, however, according to the provided screenshot from CPU-Z, they reach 2,7 GHz. The processor is manufactured using 16-nm technology at the facilities of TSMC.

The new Chinese processor also boasts 8 MB of L4 cache and a dual-channel DDR3200-6780 memory controller. The KaiXian KX-11.1A also has integrated graphics with DirectX 3 support (probably SXNUMX, but this is not certain), and it also supports current external interfaces like PCIe, SATA, USB, etc.

Since the KaiXian KX-6780A processor is made in a BGA package, it will be sold already soldered to the motherboard. Chinese PC manufacturer Xinyingjie has prepared a C1888 motherboard with a new processor. This board has a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, a pair of SO-DIMM slots for DDR4 memory modules and two M.2 slots, as well as a number of other interfaces.

The KaiXian KX-6000 desktop processors were introduced in 2018 and are comparable in performance to seventh-generation quad-core Intel Core i5s.
