Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Space hotel with artificial gravity 10.05.2022

The American company Orbital Assembly announced that it plans to build a space station in orbit by 2025, which will be both a hotel for tourists and a place for scientific research. The company wants to build another commercial station later.

According to the project, 28 space tourists will be able to stay at the new orbital station at the same time, who will live in 5 modules. Those, in turn, will be placed around the ring, which, by its rotation, will create artificial gravity.

The Pioneer station will be the first of two commercial stations planned to be built in orbit. The second station is to be built later and will be able to accommodate 400 space tourists.

"Our station is a safe and reliable modular design that will begin to generate revenue earlier than the stations of our competitors contracted by NASA," said Rhonda Stevenson, executive director of Orbital Assembly.

Artificial gravity will be maintained at the station, which will be created by a rotating ring, on which residential modules will be placed, with a diameter of 61 meters. True, this gravity will be lower than on Earth, and yet, according to the company, the inhabitants of the space hotel will feel comfortable.
