Treasure hunting is a troublesome and, as a rule, useless task. And yet we invite you to try your luck, guaranteeing complete success. We will look for real gold, and not in a cave or in a forest, but on a very ordinary plate with a gold border. And not even on a whole, but on a broken one.

It may surprise you, but the gold border on the dishes is really made of gold. Is it true. there is very little of it, because the layer is very thin. Take a glass with a gold rim and look at the light: the layer of gold seems transparent.

Gold is applied to dishes from a solution. And we will begin this experiment by preparing a solution containing gold.

Stock up on shards with gilding - you will get them for free in the glassware store. For experiments, about 10 cm will be enough for you.2 gilding. From it we will prepare about 5 ml of dilute chloroauric acid H[AuCl4]. To do this, dissolve gold in a mixture of concentrated acids - 3 ml of hydrochloric acid and 1 ml of nitric acid. This mixture is called aqua regia. Concentrated acids must be handled with extreme care! Work with rubber gloves! Put the experiment only in a chemical circle!

Before dissolving, thoroughly wash the layer of gilding on broken dishes and remove traces of fat by wiping it with a cotton swab dipped in acetone. Take a few drops of aqua regia into a glass pipette and dissolve the gilding. Carefully collect the resulting solution of chloroauric acid in a small test tube dug with distilled water. All solutions in this experiment should also be prepared in distilled water and in clean dishes.

To make full use of gold, rinse the place where it has dissolved with a small amount of water (preferably from a pipette) and collect it in the same test tube. Add water up to 5 ml. We will work with this solution. We will prepare a very beautiful cassian purple - a colloidal solution containing the smallest particles of metallic gold. It is formed when a solution of tin chloride SnCl is added to a highly dilute solution of chloroauric acid.2.

Dissolve 0,5 g of tin(II) chloride in 50 ml of water. Pour a few drops of this clear solution into a test tube with a pale yellow solution of chloroauric acid. At first, the mixture will turn yellow-brown, and after a few minutes a wonderful color of cassian purple will appear. In this case, metallic gold is reduced, and the resulting tin hydroxide Sn(OH)4 gives stability to the colloidal solution. The color of the liquid is usually intense red, but depending on the size of the particles, it can have various shades - from pink to purple.

Colloidal gold can be precipitated with a solution of table salt. In this case, the gold particles combine and sink. After washing and drying, the precipitate can again be obtained (with the help of aqua regia) a solution of chloroauric acid.

If you have a hydrogen burner at your disposal, then you can put on a very spectacular experiment - the so-called Donau experiment. A hydrogen flame directed at the surface of a solution of chloroauric acid also reduces gold, and colored bands appear in the liquid. You can also do this: apply an undiluted acid solution obtained by treating gold with aqua regia on a clean porcelain plate, dry it, and then place it in the flame of a hydrogen burner. A shiny film of gold forms on porcelain.

We warn you: the hydrogen burner can only be used with the permission and in the presence of a teacher.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Mega BEAST Electric School Bus 07.11.2023

GreenPower Motor Company has introduced the new Mega BEAST electric school bus to the US market, featuring the largest battery pack and record-breaking range. The model is designed for use in rural school districts where long distances require long travel times, as well as for efficient use on busy routes.

Mega BEAST is an improved version of the Type D electric school bus, known as BEAST (battery electric automotive school transportation). The initial model, introduced in 2019, is being successfully piloted in various school districts.

The new product, also classified as Type D, features a larger LFP battery (with a capacity of 387 kWh), which increases the range to an impressive 483 km, more than doubling compared to the previous model. LFP batteries, with added safety features and high energy density, also offer a long service life despite a higher initial cost.

The company emphasizes that the Mega BEAST offers "the longest range and largest battery in a school bus." This is especially important for rural school districts that require significant distances between remote communities. The bus is also suitable for long-distance school trips and extra-curricular activities, and the high energy reserve is useful on busy routes where there is no opportunity for quick recharging during the day.

The Mega BEAST electric school bus is scheduled to be produced at GreenPower's California and South Charleston, West Virginia plants beginning in 2024.
