Remember how you were weighed during a medical examination. Standing on the platform of the scales, you played the role of the "behemoth" from our previous experience. And the role of the bird was played by a weight, which was moved along the balance beam by a nurse. Of course, these scales are more complex than in our experience. Two levers are hidden in them, located one after the other. But the basic principle is the same. The weight on the yoke moved far, and the movement of the balance platform was barely noticeable.

Very similar in design and large commodity, the so-called decimal scales. They can be seen in warehouses and in the luggage compartments of railway stations. At the post office, parcels are also weighed on a balance scale. Household, kitchen scales are often produced spring-loaded, with an arrow and a dial. But sometimes in the kitchen you can see lever scales.

You can also make a kitchen scale. A ladle will serve as a lever, and at the same time already a cup of these scales, a skimmer will serve as a movable weight, the teeth of the fork will be the fulcrum for the lever here. They lie on the heads of two nails stuck into the cork. The other end of the fork is inserted into the hook of the ladle along with a piece of cork so that it does not fall out.

Draw a horizontal line on the wall. When weighing the load, move the skimmer until the ladle is parallel to this line.

lever scales

Divisions are applied on the yoke of postal and medical scales. And on the handle of the ladle they will also need to be applied. First, mark the position of the skimmer on the ladle without weight. Then put a load of 0,5 kg into the bucket of the ladle and move the skimmer until you again establish balance. Note this position of the skimmer. Divide the gap between the two marks along the ruler into five equal parts and put down the numbers next to the divisions: 0; 0,1 kg; 0,2 kg and so on up to 0,5 kg. Scales are ready!

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Android named the most dangerous mobile operating system 19.04.2012

Blackberry, according to Trend Micro experts, is the most secure among the main modern mobile operating systems. Android, at the same time, is the least secure. Blackberry 7 OS from Canadian smartphone maker Research in Motion is the most secure mobile operating system on the market, according to a new report from Trend Micro.

As part of their study, Trend Micro compared the level of security of four of the most popular operating systems for smartphones - Blackberry, Android from Google, iOS from Apple and Windows Phone from Microsoft - when used by corporate users.

Operating systems were tested according to several main criteria: the presence of built-in security, authentication, application security, built-in firewall, the ability to wipe the device, and a number of others. The Blackberry operating system managed to score the highest score of 2,89. In second place was iOS with an indicator of 1,7, in third - Windows Phone - 1,61. Android showed the worst security scores, scoring only 1,37 points.

According to the authors of the report, "BlackBerry OS performs very well in all major criteria, standing out from the other three mobile platforms. The system provides enterprise-level security, as well as the ability to flexibly configure and manage security tools - all this makes this platform a good choice for use by enterprises. One of the main reasons for low Android score is system fragmentation. "Android lacks a core means of providing updates to the operating system, leaving many users unprotected from critical vulnerabilities for long periods of time," Trend Micro said.

On iOS, the report states that security in Apple's mobile operating system is affected by the physical features of the iPhone and iPad. So, the system does not offer options for adding removable media (for example, USB, - approx. CNews), the absence of which provides another level of protection for users. Experts call Microsoft's Windows Phone "relatively reliable and secure."

"Against a backdrop of growing and non-stop consumerization, any mobile device carries some business risk. What is interesting about these results is that some mobile platforms have recently developed very noticeably along the corporate line, but they still have a strong legacy of "consumer marketing", which often undermines advances in system security," said Rimund Genes, CTO of Trend Micro.
