If the previous experience had to struggle artificially with an unstable equilibrium, then no art is needed in this experiment. This is an old, very visual experience.

steady pencil

You probably have a penknife, a pencil too. Sharpen the pencil so that it has a sharp end, and stick a half-open penknife a little higher than the end. Place the tip of the pencil on your index finger, and the pencil will stand on your finger, swaying slightly. Now the question is: where is the center of gravity of the pencil and penknife? The answer is simple: at the intersection of a plumb line drawn through the fulcrum and the knife handle. That is, in the handle itself, well below the fulcrum.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

New User Identification Methods 01.12.2013

Iowa State University engineers (USA) are working on innovative methods of data protection and user identification. They use individual typing patterns, as well as individual features when working with a computer mouse and mobile devices.

Associate Professor Morris Chang argues that each person has an individual style of typing on the keyboard or the manner of using a mobile phone, as well as a computer mouse. Researchers have given this process the name "cognitive fingerprinting." At this stage, the prototype of special software is already able to determine the difference in the rhythm of typing. In experiments conducted on 2000 users, the program was wrong only 0,5% of the time. These indicators are planned to be improved.

A feature of the system is that identification can be carried out without the knowledge of the user. At the same time, the system does not require additional hardware, the solution is implemented in software. When a "stranger" is detected, the identification system blocks it, blocking access to confidential information, or asks for an additional password to unlock it.

Most computers today only ask for a password when they log in. The new identification system will allow you to determine in the course of work whether the person continues to use the computer. In practice, this makes it possible to significantly improve the information security of private and corporate computer networks, as well as additionally protect mobile devices.
