There are still many TV sets in operation without remote control systems (RCS). If the owner has a video recorder (VCR) with CDS, it is quite enough to tune his tuner to TV channels received by an antenna or from a cable network, and the TV set to the frequency of the output radio frequency signal of the VCR (or by connecting it via LF), and then it will be possible to switch all programs remotely VM remote control. This is what many owners of VMs with CDS do. But another problem remains: how to remotely turn on and turn off the TV?

This problem can be solved by using the following. When you turn off the VM, the remote control usually closes one of the fairly powerful stabilizers (or electronic switches) in the VM's power supply. Even without a circuit diagram, it is easy to find such a node, remove the turn-off and turn-on voltage from it through a small resistance limiting resistor and apply this voltage to the relay. It is advisable to install a resistor to protect against accidental short circuits. The relay is placed in the TV case by connecting the contacts in parallel to its mains switch. The relay must be used with a relatively high winding resistance so as not to overload the VM power supply. You should also remember to install a diode in parallel with the relay winding (cathode to the plus of the voltage source) to protect the VM from self-induction EMF when it is turned off. As a result, the TV will turn on and off either by its switch or by the relay contacts when the TV is turned on by the button or on its front panel, or on the remote control, as well as by the TV timer.

For example, if the VM "Electronics - VMTs8220" is in use, the REK-34 relay (passport KShch 4.569.009-02, winding resistance is about 470 ohms) can be used, slightly loosening the adjusting spring. The +15 V control voltage must be removed from pin 1 of the CN104 connector located on the cross-board near the "LF Input" socket, and fed through a 27 Ohm resistor with a dissipation power of 0,25 W to a free contact of the SCART connector. The wires going to the relay winding with a diode connected in parallel are connected to it and the common wire contact. Protective diode - KD105B or any similar.

A very long operating time (about 10 years) proved the safety of such a connection for the VM. However, it must be remembered that if you want to record a TV program using the VTR timer, you must remember to unplug the TV from the outlet so that it does not turn on. You can also connect the relay contacts in series with the TV's mains switch, but in this case it will not be possible to use the TV without a VM. In addition, if the TV is connected to the VCR via radio frequency, the first button of the TV program selection block must be set to the frequency of the VTR's output channel, since this button has the priority property when turning on the TV.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

MAX17509 Dual Channel 16V 3A DC/DC Regulator 21.08.2015

The MAX17509 from Maxim Integrated is a new high performance DC/DC buck regulator with a wide input voltage range (up to 16V). The MAX17509 contains two independent, individually programmable buck converters. Each of the channels is capable of operating on an independent load with a consumption current of up to 3 A. In addition, the microcircuit can be reconfigured into a single-channel two-phase conversion mode with a maximum output current of up to 6 A.

The converter provides ample customization options, thanks to the possibility of simple flexible programming using external resistors. For example, the output voltage can be set in 20mV increments with +/-2% accuracy. The MAX17509 includes automatically reconfigurable feedback compensation circuits, eliminating the need for a designer to tune the converter operation. In addition to this, thanks to the built-in power switches operating in a synchronous circuit, the external tying circuit is greatly simplified. Ceramic capacitors can be used in the input and output circuits.

Another key feature is the programmable rise time in the conversion cycle, which allows you to fine-tune the converter to work with consumers sensitive to interference.

The MAX17509 has surge and sag protection (OV,UV), overtemperature protection (160°C automatic shutdown), and overcurrent (OC) protection with adjustable mode (hiccup/latch). In addition, such functions as soft start/stop with a specified time and external synchronization of the conversion frequency will be convenient. The microcircuit is produced in a miniature but convenient TQFN-32 package (5x5 mm).

Main technical parameters of MAX17509:

Input voltage: 4,5V...16V;
Output current: 2x3 A or 1x6 A;
Output voltage: 0,904 V...5,048 V;
Conversion frequency: 500 kHz...2000 kHz;
R(s-i) open built-in MOSFET: 50 mΩ;
Operating temperature range: -40...+125°C.
