Working professionally with imported camcorders and digital cameras, sometimes you have to deal with how, at the most interesting moment of filming, regular batteries suddenly fail, which leads to the loss of unique video and photo frames. Not wanting to put up with such oddities, many owners of such equipment acquire several compact batteries at once to quickly replace those that have run out during filming. But it's quite expensive.

Meanwhile, there is another way out of the situation. It consists in using alkaline or sulfuric acid batteries of domestic production - unpretentious in operation and well known to every motorist. True, the voltage at their terminals is 12-24 V, but it can be easily and without much loss can be lowered using, say, an electronic stabilizer.

Indeed, for a Bop video camera, Upit = 8,4 V at Ipit = 1,5 A, and for a Kodak digital camera - 5,1 V and 2 A. Based on these values, everyone is able to assemble a small device that guarantees receiving from our 12- or 24-volt batteries for the required voltages and currents. The device can be made in the form of a compact unit in two versions: on an analog microcircuit with a pair of high-capacity capacitors or as an electronic stabilizer on transistors.

As a case in any of the variants of such a block, a plastic box from the Agat mechanical stopwatch is suitable. On one of the side walls, two threaded terminals are easily placed for connecting "+" and "-" batteries, and on the other - a connector for connecting to a video camera or digital camera.

Especially convenient is the use of a home-made voltage stabilizer with an alkaline battery 10NKGTS-3,5-1. The capacity of this 12-volt power supply is enough for 3,5-4 hours of continuous operation. A small total weight (885 g) and quite acceptable dimensions (180x120x70 mm) allow you to carry this design in a small shoulder bag.

Undoubtedly, the use of a home-made voltage regulator with a car battery can also be considered successful when connected both directly to the battery terminals and through a power outlet or "cigarette lighter". A wire 4-5 m long is enough for relatively free movement near the car and capturing the environment or a place of rest. You can shoot with a video camera and a digital camera by connecting them to the car's on-board network when driving along the highway or during a long car park, without worrying about a possible failure of a regular battery.

In conclusion, about one more advantage of the proposed technical solution - the possibility of connecting video and photographic equipment to this device through a power supply unit with a frayed or, say, burned out power cord. Solder the mating part of the electrical connector to the end of the wire that remains intact and goes to the load, and - please! The reliability of connecting the equipment to the power source in the standard mode through the mains power supply is fully guaranteed.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

iSuppli predicts a downturn in the consumer electronics market 21.06.2006

Although the global consumer electronics market currently remains positively developed, analysts at iSuppli predict a slowdown in 2006, which will be expressed in its reduction to a few percent.

As an explanation for such a conclusion, two "lying on the surface" facts may come to mind - the ongoing inconsistency with the formats of high-capacity optical media and the delay in the release of new generation game consoles, but in fact, the cause of the crisis, according to the company's specialists, will be other reasons.

The real reason for the slowdown in market growth, according to iSuppli, will be related to manufacturing, whose revenues are declining so unexpectedly fast that by 2010 they may turn into losses.

Further calculations are obvious: less income from production - less production - less supply - slowdown in market growth. Another reason may be the increase in interest rates on loans by banks, which, according to experts, is a reaction to the unstable situation in the Middle East region.
