ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Modernization of the car radio. Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Audio equipment Currently, there are a large number of different car radios on the market for audio equipment. Among them, the simplest radio tape recorders are quite widespread. This category is represented mainly by Asian-made devices and some domestic models. These include products under the trademarks ATLANTA, VITEK, SATELLITE, KANSAI, Ural, Grodno, etc. All these devices are relatively cheap and do not claim high sound quality. In such radio tape recorders, in order to improve the quality of playback, it is advisable to upgrade the playback path and UMZCH. The easiest way is to refine the UMZCH, since now there is a fairly large selection of integrated UMZCH with unipolar power supply on the market, which it is advisable to put as the basis for refinement. In my radio "ATLANTA AT-86" UMZCH was assembled using the OBL10320 chip manufactured by DAEWOO. According to the technical specifications, the declared power should be 2x7 W, but in fact the output power did not exceed 5 W per channel. To upgrade the UMZCH of this radio, I used the TDA1557Q chip from Philips. The revision was reduced to the dismantling of the old amplifier and the installation of a new one. The amplifier is assembled according to the scheme shown in fig. 1. UMZCH is assembled on a printed circuit board with dimensions of 35x40 mm (Fig. 2), which is installed instead of the board of the old UMZCH. On the board, the odd row of pins of the microcircuit is located at the bottom, the even row is at the top. In this device, a foreign-made capacitor is used in position C4 - they have smaller dimensions. Capacitors C1-C3 - K73-9 or K73-17. The VD1 diode is used from the KD209 or KD208 series with any letter index. It is designed to prevent failure of the DA1 microcircuits in the event of a reverse polarity of the supply voltage. Choke L1 - normalized. These are usually installed in many radio tape recorders. It acts as a power filter. The inductor is placed outside the printed circuit board in any convenient place. The heat sink for the DA1 chip is made of an aluminum plate and must have a dissipating surface area of 200...400 cm2. The dimensions of the heat sink depend on the design of the radio housing. In some radio tape recorders, UMZCH can be installed not on a separate board, but on a common one with a preamplifier and a radio receiving path. In this case, it is necessary to dismantle the parts of the old UMZCH, and place the elements of the new one in a suitable place and connect the new UMZCH to the power points and the preamplifier output on the base board. It is advisable to use power wires with a cross section of at least 0,5 mm2. After the modernization described, the sound quality improved and the output power increased, which averages 2x 10 watts.
