More and more radio amateurs for work in the field are using car DC power for computers, transceivers, including MP3 players and other electrical equipment necessary for the trip. Since 5-volt ICs and peripheral devices are the most consuming in digital circuits, the simplest solution in the form of a conventional linear "quenching" voltage regulator at currents of 5 ... 10 A is extremely wasteful. Therefore, in such cases, it is better to use a switching step-down regulator.

A diagram of such a device on the LT1074 IC from Linear Technology is shown in fig. 5.36.

Switching buck regulator on the LT1074 chip

The stabilizer has two output voltages: 5 V with a load current of 5 A and 10 V with a load current of 2 A. The efficiency of a pulsed step-down stabilizer is about 90%, it does not have any features.

To generate a voltage of 10 V with a current of 2 A, you can use a linear regulator with a small voltage drop. It normally stabilizes the output voltage of 10 V with an input of 10,4 V and a load current of 2 A and is made on transistors VT1 ... VT7. In it, VT2 performs the function of protection against current overloads, capacitors C11 and C13 improve the impulse response.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Windows PC without a system unit 10.06.2015

Microsoft at the Computex exhibition in Taiwan introduced a personal computer in a new form factor - in the form of an electrical network adapter. Developed in collaboration with Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta Computer, the Quanta Compute Plug has plugs for connecting to a standard electrical network (according to the American standard), an HDMI connector and two USB 3.0 ports.

USB ports are used for connecting peripheral devices, and HDMI - for displaying images on a TV. By inserting the Compute Plug into a power outlet and connecting a TV to it using an HDMI cable, the user can get a personal computer running Windows 10.

You can work on it not only through peripheral devices, but also with the help of voice - using a Bluetooth headset and the Cortana acoustic control function built into Windows. Wi-Fi is provided to connect to the Internet.

This is not the first Windows device in an unusual form factor. In March 2015, the company demonstrated an HDMI dongle with a pre-installed operating system, designed to connect to a TV through an appropriate multimedia interface.

Computers in the form of an electrical network adapter also existed before. In 2009, Marvell introduced a typical device in this form factor, with an ARM-architecture processor running Ubuntu. Several obscure electronics manufacturers took advantage of the idea.

In addition, at the aforementioned event, another unusual mini-PC, developed in conjunction with contract electronics manufacturer Foxconn, was presented - Foxconn Kangaroo, which resembles an external hard drive. In the case of this gadget, the TV also serves as a screen. In addition to standard components, the device has a fingerprint scanner and a built-in battery that provides up to six hours of battery life.
