We will talk about several simple schemes that allow you to implement the world-famous effect of a running light. So here's the first diagram. Pay attention to the diagram.

Rapid LED fire (option 1). Scheme of a running fire for 8 LEDs, option 1

In this circuit, the light will run across 10 LEDs. Two microcircuits are used.

The first - KR1006VI1 plays the role of a master oscillator and generates pulses with a frequency that depends on the value of the resistor R1 and capacitor C1. The frequency can be calculated using the formula

F=1.44/RC

and with the ratings indicated on the diagram, it is equal to 15 Hertz.

From output 3 DD1, the pulses are fed to the input of the decimal counter DD2, which is played by K561IE8. With each pulse, the counter increases its state by 1 and switches the corresponding outputs. Well, the LEDs have nothing left to do, as soon as they turn on and off depending on the state of one or another output.

If it seems to you that 10 LEDs is a lot, the circuit can be shortened by tearing off the output of 15 DD2 from the common wire and screwing it to one of the counter outputs. For example, if you need to leave only 5 LEDs, then the 15th output of DD2 is connected to the 1st leg of DD2. Thus, having reached 5 units in its account, at the sixth step, the microcircuit will give a high level signal - "1" to the reset input of the counter and its value will be reset to zero.

A small annoyance of this simple circuit is that the load capacity of IE8 is very small and is 5-6 mA, therefore, the resistor R2 is of such a large value and the brightness of the LEDs may not be sufficient. To get around this ambush, you can use buffer transistors between the outputs of the counter and the LEDs.
And it looks like this:

Rapid LED fire (option 1). Scheme of a running fire on 8 LEDs with amplified outputs

Thus, using the transistors indicated in the diagram, we can get a current of 20-30 mA without any strain and turn on even super-bright LEDs (5-7 Cd).

Well, if you really want something very bright, you can turn on optocouplers instead of LEDs, and connect thyristors to them. And then a quick fire can be launched at least on 500-watt searchlights.

Well, that's enough for now. In the next part, we will talk about cascading the 561IE8 chip and fire on 16 and even 18 LEDs.

And by the way, the microcircuits used in this circuit have bourgeois analogues - the KR1006VI1 has a 555 microcircuit known to the whole civilization, and the K561IE8 has a CD4017, which is also quite popular. And what's really good - both cost mere pennies. Is it true.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

A new property of light has been discovered 02.07.2019

Scientists from Spain and the USA have discovered a new property of light that was not even predicted before. They received a beam of light with a time-varying rotation. The new property is called intrinsic torque.

The fact that light can twist was discovered in 1995. In this case, the light wave is similar to a corkscrew, twisted around the direction of propagation. Such a light beam is also called a vortex. Physicists say it has orbital angular momentum. This property of light has found applications in optical communications, microscopy, quantum optics, and the manipulation of microparticles. However, all the vortex rays received up to this point were static, that is, did not change in time.

The authors of this work obtained a light beam with a turn that changes with time. They compared it to a whirlpool that speeds up the rotation. Most importantly, the change in rotation was not due to any effect on the light. He changed the speed of rotation himself, without outside help.

In the experiment, the researchers passed overlapping pulses of swirling light from two ultraviolet lasers through a cloud of argon gas. As a result of the interaction, a combined vortex beam was obtained at the exit from the cloud. It turned out that if the pulses have different orbital momentum and a small delay relative to each other, then the output beam has a time-varying rotation, which can be controlled by changing the delay time. The intensity of this beam in cross section has the shape of a crescent.

At high values of the orbital momentum of the incident pulses, the time of change in the orbital momentum of the resulting beam is much less than the pulse length and has a femtosecond (10^-15 s) scale. In the future, such vortex beams can be used for ultrafast control of nanostructures and atoms. Perhaps they will open new directions for the use of light in optical communications and quantum optics.
