On occasion, I purchased a portable Chinese-made LED flashlight with a battery inside. The flashlight has the ability to switch between a cluster of eight ultra-bright LEDs and a 5,4 V Krypton incandescent lamp. There is also a battery charger inside. In addition, the flashlight is combined with a lamp - a fluorescent lamp with a power of 6 W, powered by a special voltage converter of 150 - 6 V.

Illumination using an energy-saving lamp (hereinafter referred to as EL) of the Osram Dulux S7W type, implemented in this design, is very convenient for many purposes. With it, you can read in a tent, on a camping trip, or in camping conditions continuously for six hours - thanks to the low power consumption of the lamp, provided the built-in battery is fully charged. I tested the lantern and its lamp with an energy-saving lamp “for durability” in rural areas over the course of a year. The circuit design of the voltage converter seems to me to be very successful and valuable for repetition in other designs, and for the use of a ready-made converter board for powering electric power up to 8 W - in an aquarium lamp. The electrical circuit of the converter device is copied from the printed circuit board and shown in the figure.

The principle of operation of the device. The device, implemented using a push-pull pulse voltage converter circuit, operates with a frequency of approximately 112 kHz. The TL494 chip is based on a ready-made pulse-width signal modulator, so the circuit and device as a whole are very simple. At the output of the circuit, high-voltage rectifier diodes are installed to double the converted voltage. The converter uses a ready-made high-frequency transformer brand EL1-ASH from the power supply of an “outdated” Canon BJC-33 printer as T2000. After measuring the resistance of the windings relative to each other, it turned out that their ratio (I to II) is 1:20.

The tap in the primary winding is made exactly from its middle (that is, this winding in this case consists of two halves). Since I have several transformers of the EL33-ASH type from old printer power supplies, I disassembled one of them, and I can state that its secondary winding consists of 220 turns of wire with a diameter of 0,3 mm.

Fixed resistors R1 and R2 set the pulse width at the output of the converter. The circuit can be simplified (and not use R1, R2), while the 4th pin of DA1 must be connected to the common wire (minus power).

Resistor R3 (together with capacitor C1) sets the operating frequency, which can be adjusted within small limits: as the resistance of resistor R1 decreases, the frequency of the converter generator increases; as the capacitance of capacitor C1 increases, the frequency decreases, and vice versa.

About the details. The TL494 chip can be replaced with a 1114EU4 - this is a complete analogue. Powerful MOSFETs VT1, VT2 are characterized by short switching times and a simple control circuit. They can be replaced with IRFZ46N, IRFZ48N (the larger the number in the marking, the more powerful the analogue is in current).

Instead of HER307 pulse rectifier diodes, HER304 - HER306 or KD213 with any letter index are suitable.

Oxide high-voltage capacitors C3 and C4 with an operating voltage of at least 200 V - type KX, SarHop, HCY CD11GN, ASN-ELB043.

The converter is powered by a portable battery with a voltage of 6 V and a capacity of 1,2 A/h.

Protection of the circuit from overload and reverse power supply (when using the finished board in other designs) can be implemented through a fuse and a diode connected in the forward direction at the input.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>
