Another species, V. poissoni Cheval, is also known in Africa. (Kerstingiella geocarpa). The leaves of this plant are trifoliate, on long petioles; corolla greenish-white, slightly purple.

The fruits are flattened, 13-20 mm long and 7-10 mm thick; there are two of them in a bean, less often three. Seeds of different colors: white, red, black.

The white-seeded Kerstingiella contains 21,40% nitrogenous substances, 1,90 fat, 0,40 sugars and 48,90% amides. Grain is used like beans.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Metal foam for thermal insulation 07.04.2016

Scientists from the University of North Carolina (USA) have developed a lightweight metal foam that is able to insulate heat more efficiently than conventional metals and alloys.

Composite metal foam consists of hollow spheres of carbon or stainless steel or titanium embedded in a metal matrix. The presence of air pockets allows such foam to effectively block heat, since heat spreads more slowly through air than through metal.

Americans have learned to make composite foam in two ways. The technology is based on casting materials with a low melting point (aluminum) around hollow metal spheres made of materials with a high melting point (steel). The second technology is based on the sintering of metal powder around finished hollow spheres.

During the tests, foam samples measuring 6x6 centimeters and about 1,8 centimeters thick were exposed to fire for half an hour and measured how long it would take for the heat to reach the opposite edge. It turned out that a piece of stainless steel heats up to 800 ° C in 4 minutes, but a similar-sized sample of metal foam holds heat twice as long - 8 minutes.

Composite metal foam can be used to store and transport temperature sensitive materials, explosives and radioactive materials.
