In Western culture, it is often associated with lightness and airiness. Its tall, graceful peduncles symbolize grace and elegance, and its flowers symbolize tenderness and beauty. The delphinium can also symbolize new growth and the beginning of something new. Its bright, saturated colors symbolize vitality and optimism. It can be used as a symbol of rebirth and growth. Delphinium (larkspur), Delphinium. Description, illustrations of the plant Delphinium (larkspur), Delphinium L. Legends, myths, history Ancient Greek legends tell how Achilles, the son of Peleus and the sea goddess Thetis, fought under the walls of Troy. His mother gave him magnificent armor, forged by the blacksmith god Hephaestus himself. The only weak point of Achilles was the heel, by which Thetis held him as a child, when she decided to dip the baby in the sacred waters of the river Styx. It was in the heel that Achilles was hit by an arrow shot from a bow by Paris. After the death of Achilles, his legendary armor was awarded to Odysseus, and not to Ajax Telamonides, who considered himself the second hero after Achilles. In desperation, Ajax threw himself on the sword. Drops of the hero's blood fell to the ground and turned into flowers, which we now call delphiniums. It is also believed that the name of the plant is associated with the shape of its flowers, resembling the back of a dolphin. According to another ancient Greek myth, an unusually gifted young man lived in Ancient Hellas, who carved a beautiful statue of his dead beloved from memory and breathed life into it. The right to return from Hades is given only to the great gods. And the gods were angry with him for this and turned him into a dolphin. Every evening a dolphin swam to the shore, every evening the girl revived by him approached the shore, but they could not meet. But then one day, already desperate to see her creator, the girl started up, her eyes shone: on the iridescent waves she saw a dolphin: in his mouth he held a delicate flower emitting azure light. The dolphin swam majestically and gracefully to the shore and placed a sad flower at the girl's feet, which turned out to be a delphinium flower. The dolphin disappeared into the depths of the sea, and they never saw each other again. Among the ancient Greeks, the delphinium symbolized sadness. According to Russian belief, delphiniums have medicinal properties, including helping to heal bones in case of fractures, so until recently in Russia these plants were called larkspur. In our time, the plant is often referred to as a spur. In Germany, the popular name for the delphinium is knightly spurs. Delphinium or larkspur can decorate any flower bed, but it is also a source of the strongest poison, whose action is akin to the action of aconite and the famous curare poison, in which the Indians dipped their arrows. Delphinium in antiquity was practically not used as a medicine. Only in the XNUMXst century A.D. e. Pliny the Elder described a recipe for preparing an antiparasitic drug from delphinium juice. Medieval physicians used its tincture to heal wounds. Its most basic magical property is that it is used in love potions and in love divination. This, perhaps, is fully explained by the legend about the origin of this plant. After all, this flower was a gift of love, so it is the strongest tool of this kind. Another property of the delphinium, completely opposite to the previous one, is that it was used to protect against a love spell (undesirable, of course). And, finally, one more (but certainly not the last) property of the delphinium: it is a plant-amulet. The blue delphinium flower, dried without fail, should be worn in a small bag or amulet around the neck, protecting it from prying eyes. If all this was observed, then the delphinium protected from nightmares and insomnia. Species and varieties of it, amazing in color: blue, blue, azure, purple, lilac, white and lilac, in combination with black, gray and cream petals, give the plants an irresistible charm and charm. Delphinium. Legends and tales This flower was dubbed the delphinium in ancient Greece for the similarity of the buds with the head of a dolphin. In Russia it is called larkspur or spur, in Ukraine - horned cornflowers, in England - funny spurs, in France - lark's leg. As can be seen from the names, most peoples tend to call the delphinium a spur because the upper petal of its sepals really looks like a spur. Greek legends are inclined to assert that once upon a time in Ancient Hellas there lived an unusually gifted young man who sculpted his deceased beloved from memory and breathed life into the statue. And the gods for such extraordinary audacity turned him into a dolphin. Every evening a dolphin swam to the shore, every evening the girl revived by him came to the shore, but they could not meet. With eyes full of love, the girl looked into the distance of the sea, a light breeze swayed the curls of her shiny hair, and the narrow eyebrows of the beauty arched, giving her face an expression of hidden longing. But then the girl started up, her eyes shone: on the shimmering waves she saw a dolphin: in his mouth he held a delicate flower emitting azure light. The dolphin swam majestically and gracefully to the shore and placed a sad flower at the girl's feet, which turned out to be a delphinium flower. Its species and varieties are amazing in color: blue, blue, azure, purple, lilac, white and purple, they, in combination with black, white, gray and cream eyes, give plants an irresistible charm and charm. The sun-loving flower does not tolerate shade. However, on hot days it prefers coolness, being afraid to get burned by the sultry summer rays. Author: Krasikov S.
