We continue the review of class power amplifiers D integrated circuits from various manufacturers. This time we will survey (surround?) a microcircuit MAX9709produced by a corporation MAXIM.

Despite the relatively small output power indicated in the title of the article, it has one indisputable advantage - acoustics can be connected directly to the microcircuit terminals - no additional inductors are required - as they say - everything is included.

The chip has built-in overload protection, output current limiter, "boom bang" suppression when power is turned on and off. It is also possible to program the gain and the amplifier cut-off temperature.

The main drawback, in my opinion, is the nightmare packages in which the microcircuit is produced - this is either a 56-pin TQFN or a 64-pin TQFP. By the way, keep in mind that the pin numbering on the diagrams is given just for the latter.

Let's look at the diagrams.

Turning on the chip in stereo mode:

And in mono mode:

Class D power amplifier (25/50 watts) based on the MAX9709 chip. Amplifier circuit

As you can see, the microcircuit is connected to two power sources - 22 V for the analog part and 5-12 V for the digital one. If it is assumed that the microcircuit will be powered by 12 volts, then the power supply leads can be combined. Otherwise, it is enough to connect any integrated stabilizer - KREN or LM - to the power supply of the analog part.

As for heat removal from microcircuits, the manufacturer offers two methods.

The first is the manufacture of a double-sided board, on both sides of which two multi-, for example, 6-gons are etched one above the other. Both, of course, are arranged so as to get under the belly of the microcircuit and are connected either with metallized holes in several places - the more, the better, or simply with wire jumpers, but also - the better, the more. Thus, the microcircuit is located on top of one of the polygons, and the opposite one is connected to some of the largest and thickest tracks on the board.

Or, the second option - the usual heat sink on top of the microcircuit - is not the largest. There is an idea to put it on hot glue - cheap and cheerful.

I don’t give a plate with elements - it is obscenely small.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Volvo electric buses take to the city streets 18.05.2015

Volvo has announced that testing of electric buses is nearing completion and within about a month they will go to the city streets of Gothenburg - one of the largest cities in Sweden.

Volvo's first eco-friendly buses will run on a new route built as part of the ElectriCity project. This initiative, supported by research organizations, industry players and the city, aims to develop a new generation of public transport that does not pollute the environment.

Initially, three all-electric Volvo buses, as well as seven cars with a hybrid power plant, will leave the route. They will be able to recharge the batteries at the end stations. Moreover, it is planned to draw energy mainly from renewable sources.

Buses with a length of 10,7 meters are designed to carry up to 86 passengers. The bright modern salon is equipped with sockets for recharging gadgets, in addition, it is possible to connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Buses will start running on June 15.

It should be noted that Volvo also intends to test in Gothenburg the technology of creating a roadbed with an integrated wireless charging system for electric vehicle batteries. It is assumed that such a canvas will be able to supply energy to the power supply circuit of electric buses directly during their movement.
