In recent years, light switches with built-in indicator lights have become fashionable and widely used, making it easy to find the switch in the dark. To add more variety to the world around you, you can make a very simple indicator for the switch on a two-color flashing LED. Its scheme is shown in Fig. one.

An excess of mains voltage extinguishes the resistor R2, a rectifier is assembled on the diode VD2. Capacitor C1 smooths out ripples, and the zener diode VD1 does not allow the voltage on this capacitor to exceed 5,6 V. To prevent the indicator from annoying with its blinking during daylight hours, a photorelay assembly is provided on the photoresistor R1, field effect transistor VT1, resistor R3 and capacitor C2.

When the photoresistor is illuminated, its resistance is small - approximately 30 kΩ. For this reason, the voltage between the gate and source of the transistor VT1 is less than the threshold and the transistor is closed, and the HL1 LED is off. In the dark, the resistance of the photoresistor increases to 1 ... 10 MΩ, and the voltage at the gate of the transistor VT1 also increases. When it exceeds the threshold, the transistor will open. The power supply voltage will be supplied to the LED, and it will flash red and green alternately at a frequency of 1,5 ... 4 Hz.

Resistor R4 is designed to reduce the brightness of flashes. In addition, as it turned out, it evens out the brightness of flashes of red and green colors. If flashes of maximum brightness are required, this resistor can be replaced with a jumper, since there are built-in current limiting circuits inside the blinking LED.

"Firefly" can be mounted on a round fiberglass board, shown in fig. 2. It is easy to install in the light switch box. To protect the device parts and printed conductors from accidental contact with the metal box and the switch mounting elements, two round plates made of sheet insulating material 0,5 ... 1 mm thick (for example, fiberglass without foil) with a diameter slightly larger than the board can protect. In no case do not wrap the board with insulating tape, tape, paper. This will disrupt air circulation and cause overheating.

The SPS-1 photoresistor can be replaced with another small-sized photoresistor and even a phototransistor (for example, L-32P3C) or a photodiode (for example, FD265). The oxide capacitor C1 is an imported analogue of the domestic K50-35, the capacitor C2 is a small-sized ceramic or film capacitor. Instead of a 1N4006 diode, any of the KD209, KD410 series is suitable, and in addition to the KS156A zener diode, others at 5,6 V are also suitable for working in a firefly - KS456A, KS 156G, 1N4734A, BZX55C5V6, BZV55C5V6. The KP504G transistor can be replaced by any of the KP501, KP502, KP504, KP505, ZVN2120, BSS88 series. When replacing, take into account the differences in the pinout of these transistors.

If there is no flashing two-color LED SB3RG6SCECX, then you can install SB3YG6SCECY (yellow / green), SB3BG6SCECY (blue / green), SB3RB6SCECY (red / blue), DK5BR3SSC (red / blue) or DK5GR3SSC (red / green) - all of them in cases with a diameter 5 mm. Such LEDs are often found in children's toys. In extreme cases, a single-color flashing LED is also suitable.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

The benefits of sex for athletes 20.10.2016

Laura Stefani from the University of Florence (Italy) and her colleagues analyzed and summarized data from scientific publications on the impact of the sexual life of athletes on their performance. They came to the conclusion that the prejudice that sex before the start is harmful is nothing more than a ridiculous myth.

The notion that sexual intimacy before a competition negatively affects athletes has existed since ancient times. Back in the XNUMXst century AD. the ancient Roman physician and philosopher Areteus of Cappadocia wrote that male power can weaken, transforming into a seed. Even earlier, the Greek philosopher Plato condemned the Olympians who practiced intimacy on the eve of the competition.

Nowadays, such an opinion exists, for example, among football coaches, and fans of the film about Rocky remember his mentor's warnings that "women make legs weak."

Scientists have analyzed more than 500 different scientific publications relating to the relationship of sex with physical activity. Surprisingly, there are practically no works dealing with this problem in detail. Of the nine studies that have been published over the past 60 years, researchers have found that none address this question systematically.

The researchers concluded that sex the night before a competition may even have a positive effect on athletic performance.

"In general, there is an overall positive effect of sex the night before a competition on an athlete's performance, especially from a psychological point of view. Sex has a relaxing effect that can help reduce stress, increase endurance (important for marathon runners) or concentration (when shooting)" , the authors write.

However, the researchers caution that the available material is somewhat ad hoc and there is still no reliable data on the correlation between sex and fitness.

Scientists talk about the positive impact of sex at least ten hours before the start, provided that the athlete does not smoke or drink alcohol.
