The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Hybrid generator saves up to 93% energy 11.05.2012

The US Army is testing original hybrid power generators in Afghanistan that can solve the main problems of supplying troops at forward bases.

The inventor of the new generator was a former Marine, a graduate of Cambridge Doug Moorhead. He brought together the latest development technologies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard to form Earl Energy, a hybrid generator design and manufacturing company.

The device combines solar panels, a diesel generator and a lithium-ion battery.

In Iraq, Afghanistan, and a host of other places, diesel generators are running around the clock as troops need continuous power. This is extremely inefficient, since energy consumption at different times of the day differs significantly, and most of the time diesel generators burn fuel in vain. The hybrid generator is equipped with a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery and turns on only occasionally - to recharge it or during peak consumption. Thus, the new generator operates at maximum performance only 4-5 hours a day, and the rest of the time the consumer uses the energy of the battery. It is also possible to connect a 10-kW solar panel.

The US Marine Corps has already tested a new 18-kilowatt hybrid generator in the Mojave Desert, reducing fuel consumption by 93%. Several generators are currently being tested in Afghanistan. Also, the tactical unit of the US Special Operations Forces SEAL is preparing to buy a novelty. If the tests go well, the US military could buy thousands of hybrid generators.

According to calculations, fuel savings will pay for the new generator in just 5 months. At the same time, a new generator costs only $20 more than a conventional diesel one - $100. In addition, fuel savings will reduce the need for fuel. Today, a liter of fuel for US troops in Afghanistan costs about $10 - 10 times more than at a gas station in the US. In addition, one American soldier is killed or seriously injured in one of the 24 supply convoys.
