FACTORY TECHNOLOGIES AT HOME - SIMPLE RECIPES
Artificial pearl. Simple recipes and tips Directory / Factory technology at home - simple recipes Obtaining faux pearls is based on giving various materials special iridescent light effects characteristic of natural pearls, many shells, soap bubbles, wings of many insects, etc. For the manufacture of artificial pearls, various compositions are used that are applied to glass, porcelain, artificial masses and other materials and create proper pearl effect. The oldest method is the Jaquin method. Jaquin received a solution of pearl essence in gelatin and applied this solution to glass and other materials. This solution, upon drying, gave a film that had the iridescent appearance of pearls. Currently, instead of a gelatin solution, celluloid varnishes are successfully used for this purpose. Further work, crowned with success, pursued the goal of obtaining artificial pearls without pearl essence. If the manufacture of artificial pearls is carried out by gelatin coating, then to give it hardness it is treated with formaldehyde, alum or chromium salts. In the latter case, to give special strength, it is necessary to expose the processed objects to sunlight. The gelatin layer treated with formaldehyde or chromium salts is easy to polish. It should be noted, however, that at present the gelatin coating method is rarely used, since it is inferior to a number of other methods that provide a more perfect, more durable and practically easier to implement coating. The application of the pearl layer is usually carried out on the outer surface of massive balls, equipped with a through hole for threading. Balls are usually used glass or porcelain, but you can successfully use balls molded from any artificial mass (adhesive, casein, gypsum, etc.). Hollow glass beads are also used. In this case, the pearl mass is poured into them. Pearl beads obtained by pouring hollow glass beads are fragile, break easily and belong to cheaper varieties of artificial pearls, while pearls obtained by applying appropriate substances to the outer layer of glass give very strong, massive and very valuable imitations. The use of hollow balls and the application of a pearl layer on the inside is practiced mainly for the manufacture of earrings and other jewelry, where light, rather than massive imitations are required. The modern process of making artificial pearls and the so-called pearl beads is reduced to repeated application to the surface of glass or porcelain balls of the so-called pearl nat, obtained by mixing specially prepared two compounds: pearl essence and celluloid varnish. First of all, you should be familiar with the manufacture pearl essence and manufacturing celluloid varnish. Author: Korolev V.A.
