The so-called zaponlaki, which are a solution of celluloid, nitrocellulose or acetylcellulose in various solvents.

These varnishes are used for a wide variety of purposes. Upon drying, the varnish film, which has gloss and elasticity, forms a very thin layer and does not change at all (if the varnish itself is not painted) the color of the objects being varnished. Due to these properties, these varnishes are suitable for coating metals in order to protect them from tarnishing, for fixing drawings, for covering documents, for priming when painting fabrics, for varnishing geographical maps, playing cards, for doll heads, toys, for coloring and frosting glass , for gluing celluloid products, etc.

Celluloid varnishes, depending on the objects intended for processing, are poured onto the object or immersed in the liquid. You can also apply the varnish by spraying or using a brush. Celluloid varnishes adhere unusually firmly to any material, and they are difficult to scrape off from an object coated with them.

On matte surfaces such as wood, paper, etc., all oil and alcohol varnishes give a more or less strong shine; porous substances, due to the absorption of large quantities of solution, become dense and hard, etc.; celluloid varnishes, on the contrary, leave metal and glass their shine, wood, paper their original properties, and porous substances coated with such varnishes remain more or less soft and flexible due to the special properties of celluloid.

The material used for celluloid varnishes is either dry celluloid or nitrocellulose mixed with camphor. Dissolution in small quantities is carried out in glass bottles, in larger productions - in iron enameled and wooden vats, lined with tin or lead and sometimes equipped with stirrers. If possible, it is useful to install a coil inside the vats to pass hot water or steam through it. The temperature should not exceed 45-50 °C. This production is extremely flammable, and therefore appropriate safety precautions must be observed. The technique for preparing varnishes is extremely simple.

A certain amount of solvent is poured into the vat and celluloid, nitrocellulose or cellulose acetate is added and stirred until completely dissolved. Care should be taken to ensure that neither the solvent nor the material contains moisture, otherwise the varnish will be of poor quality. By mixing varnish with covering paints, good glossy paints are obtained, similar to alcohol-enamel paints.

Celluloid varnishes are usually not immediately transparent and are only lightened by letting them sit for a long time. These varnishes can only be filtered with great difficulty, since they quickly seal the pores of the filter.

The solvents used are acetone sulfur ether, alcohol, amyl acetate, amyl alcohol, various esters of acetic acid, chlorohydrins, etc., or various combinations of these solvents. Transparent celluloid, if it has been previously softened in amyl acetate, dissolves in a mixture of various parts of alcohol and turpentine, as well as in amyl acetate.

The solution is transparent, but it gives a matte finish on the metal. To dissolve, the celluloid is cut into small pieces, sprayed with alcohol or ether and left to sit for several hours, after which a solvent is added to it.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

First 4K display for smartphones 16.04.2015

Sharp has introduced the first Ultra HD smartphone display on the market with a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels. The pixel count of the new screen is four times that of the standard Full HD display in the Android smartphone market and 2,25 times that of the Samsung Galaxy S6 (2560 x 1440 pixels).

The new Sharp display has a diagonal of 5,5 inches. It is made using IGZO semiconductor material (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide) and has a record pixel density of 806 pixels per inch in the mobile display market. For comparison, the pixel density of the Samsung Galaxy S6 is 577 pixels, while the Apple iPhone 6 is 326 pixels per inch.

The company plans to start mass production of the new display in 2016. The first smartphones with the new display are also expected to go on sale next year, writes PhoneArena.

We add that Sharp has long been one of the suppliers of displays for Apple devices. According to sources, Sharp's IGZO screens will be used in the new 12,9-inch iPad Pro, which has yet to be announced.

Some foreign media have taken it upon themselves to suggest that the new Sharp display will be in the next generation of iPhone. However, it is worth emphasizing that only the improved iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are expected to be released next year. Previously, when updating devices, Apple never increased the resolution of their screens.
