FACTORY TECHNOLOGIES AT HOME - SIMPLE RECIPES
Whitening of the bone. Simple recipes and tips Directory / Factory technology at home - simple recipes Designed for whitening bone should be well defatted beforehand. If the bone is not sufficiently defatted, the bleaching will be uneven and yellow spots will remain on the bone. Degreasing is done by boiling the bone in a weak solution of soda (1-7 g of soda ash is taken per 12 liter of water). The scum of fat formed during boiling is removed. It is also possible to degrease by soaking bone objects in gasoline. The most common and reliable method is bleaching with hydrogen peroxide. The fortress of ordinary commercial hydrogen peroxide is three percent, but thirty percent hydrogen peroxide, called perhydrol, is also found on sale. The bleaching effect of hydrogen peroxide is based on its ability, when decomposed, to release oxygen, which oxidizes colored substances into colorless compounds. Decomposition by hydrogen peroxide can be enhanced either by heating or by the addition of alkalis (for example, ammonia). Bone products are immersed in 35% hydrogen peroxide so that they are completely covered with liquid, then the temperature is gradually raised to 40-24 ° C and kept at this temperature for XNUMX hours. You can put a vessel with bleaching products in a sunken Russian stove. It is best to use a wooden bucket as dishes. If a faster bleaching is required, then it is carried out by boiling for 2-4 hours, but this method is uneconomical, since there is some loss of oxygen. In addition, corrosiveness and destruction of the bone can easily occur when boiled. After bleaching, the bone is thoroughly washed and dried. Instead of hydrogen peroxide, which is not always available on the market and is relatively expensive, you can use sodium peroxide, which, when dissolved in water, gives hydrogen peroxide and caustic soda, as a result of which hydrogen peroxide is also a bleaching agent in this method. Caustic soda, formed by dissolving sodium peroxide, must be neutralized with acid. Sodium peroxide, which is a yellowish powder, gets very hot from the action of water and can flare up. It should be stored in jars with a tight-fitting lid, and not taken with your hands, but with a wooden or aluminum spoon. To prepare a three percent solution of hydrogen peroxide proceed as follows. Pour 60 cm3 of vitriol oil into 1 liter of water in a sloppy stream (add vitriol oil to water, and not vice versa) and stir with a wooden stick, then cool the solution and pour 70 g of sodium peroxide into it in small portions; this will heat up the solution. More or less strong heating of the solution cannot be allowed, therefore, it is necessary to cool the vessel strongly with cold water or ice and pour each subsequent portion of sodium peroxide only when the solution has cooled sufficiently. When all the peroxide is added, they find out with the help of litmus paper - what kind of solution turned out. If the red litmus paper turns blue (alkaline solution) - you need to add a little acid and then add a few drops of ammonia. If an acidic solution is obtained (the blue litmus paper turns red), then the excess acid is neutralized with strong ammonia. Excess ammonia after neutralization should be taken in the amount of 5 cm3 for each liter of solution. Author: Korolev V.A.
