Who Invented Zero?

You probably don't know that zero is an invented concept. This is one of the greatest achievements of mankind, this is a whole theory that has influenced the history of mankind, because it has made a great contribution to the development of higher mathematics.

Until the 2th century, the number system used in Europe was Roman, invented about 10 millennia ago. The Roman system was very complex. It is based on ten. The "X" sign is 100. The letter "C" means 1000, "M" - 1, "I" - 5, "V" - 50, "L" - 500, "D" - 4. 5 is denoted as "IV" , i.e. one less than 1648. To write down the number XNUMX, you need to use the following numbers: MDCXLVIII. In the Roman system, to read a number, you need to count, subtract, add.

Long before the new era, the inhabitants of India invented a more convenient system of counting. It was brought to Europe around 900 by Arab traders, which is why it is called the Indo-Arabic system. According to the Indo-Arabic system, all numbers were written with signs - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and zero. The numbers included in the numbers written in this system had different meanings depending on the place where they stood. We know that the number 10 means 1 ten, because the unit is written in place of tens, and zero shows that the place of units is free, there are no units.

The number 40 means that there are 4 tens, there are no units. It can be said in another way that there are 40 units in this number. Zero indicates that the number 4 is in place of tens. The Romans didn't have a zero in their system. To write 205, they did it like this: "CCV". They did not use the value of the place where the digit stands. In the Hindu-Arabic system, we write 205 by putting 2 in the hundreds place, zero in the tens place, 5 in the units place. 2 shows that hundreds are 2, zero shows no tens, and units - 5.

We needed ways to indicate the significance of each digit in a number. The invention of zero made this possible. They began to use words and icons showing the meaning of the place where the number is located.

Which chips were unsuccessfully demanded by the company that made them not to be considered chips?

Pringles chips are only 42% potatoes, the rest is wheat starch, corn and rice flour, and vegetable oils. In 2008, Procter & Gamble, the owner of this brand, filed a lawsuit in the British court demanding that Pringles be officially not considered chips - this would allow the company not to pay a value-added tax of 17,5% and thereby reduce costs. In the primary instance, the claim was satisfied, but the court of appeal overturned this decision and returned the name of the chips to the product.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. Video cards with hardware limitation of mining 17.05.2021

Galax has released the GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3070 General FG LHR, which have mining protection installed at the hardware level. The video cards are equipped with new GPUs with a built-in hardware limiter for mining the Ethereum cryptocurrency.

Such graphics accelerators are not able to give maximum performance when used in the farm, but will allow gamers to get the most out of the game mode.

Galax previously presented exactly the same models of FG series video cards, but without a mining limiter. Versions are delivered in packages that do not distinguish new items from previous versions. That is, the manufacturer does not mention the fact that video cards are equipped with a mining limiter.

It is planned that the previously released GeForce RTX 3060/3060 Ti, as well as the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080, will soon receive an update in the form of hardware protection against mining. At the same time, the RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti will initially acquire such a function. It will automatically reduce the performance of video cards in cryptocurrency mining to the level of inexpensive solutions.

Galax reports 25 MH/s and 43 MH/s for the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 respectively. The normal performance of the cards in mining is about twice as high.
