Mild potassium soaps. Simple recipes and tips

Soft soaps are obtained by saponifying oils and fats with caustic kali. All these soaps have a soft creamy consistency, depending mainly on the type of fats present. Fats containing more olein produce softer soaps than fats containing a lot of stearin and palmitin.
The concentration of alkali is taken depending on the saponifiable fat. Oil or fat is placed in a cauldron and boiled with 1/3 of the total amount of caustic potash. As saponification, the remaining amount of alkali is added in small portions until a transparent soapy mass is obtained. Neutral potassium soap is a viscous cloudy mass; to obtain transparency, an excess of caustic potash or potash is needed, the addition of potash also contributes to a better connection of water with soap.
Soap is tested on a glass plate. A drop of it should be completely homogeneous and transparent, without signs of separation of fat and alkali. When tested between the fingers, the soap should give sharp ends when the fingers are spread apart and not stretch into the thread. Often, 30% rosin is added to mild soaps, which is easily saponified and gives the soap shine and foam. Filling agents are soda, potassium chloride, talc, Glauber's salt, etc. These substances are added when the soap has cooled down a bit
Soluble glass is also used for filling, but it is introduced during boiling. If the soap is too liquid, part of the caustic potash is replaced with caustic soda.
Natural granular soap
1st recipe
- Linseed oil 40 kg;
- Fat 30 kg;
- Cottonseed oil 20 kg;
- Bone fat 10 kg;
- Caustic potassium solution 25 °Be 110 kg.
2st recipe
- Palm oil 40 kg;
- Olein 40 kg;
- Linseed oil 12 kg;
- Fat 8 kg;
- Caustic potassium solution 28 °Be 110 kg.
3st recipe
- Linseed oil 80 kg;
- Fat 20 kg;
- Caustic potassium solution 25 °Be 110 kg.
The preparation of soap according to these recipes is as follows. Butter and lard are processed in a cauldron with 40 kg of caustic potash solution. Give a good boil and add another 40 kg of caustic potash. Stir and add in small portions the rest of the caustic potash. After a transparent, well-cooked glue is obtained, it is examined for the content of excess caustic potash. The room temperature should be between 10 and 15 as it influences grain formation. The grain consists of crystallized stearic and palmitic soaps.
Oleic soft soaps
1st recipe
- Oleic acid 20 kg;
- Cottonseed oil 15 kg;
- Fat 15 kg;
- Caustic potassium solution 25 °Be 65 kg.
2st recipe
- Oleic acid 20 kg;
- White palm oil 20 kg;
- Fat 10 kg;
- Caustic potassium solution 25 °Be 65 kg.
Fats are dissolved and with constant stirring, a solution of caustic potash is added and boiled until a sample is obtained that has the properties of a good soap glue. You can first saponify oleic acid with soda, and then add the remaining parts, but then the caustic potassium solution takes

Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
Petgugu Global cat litter
15.04.2024
Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>
The attractiveness of caring men
14.04.2024
The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
Random news from the Archive Surface defrosting in a second
11.09.2019
A group of researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA) and the University of Kyushu (Japan) have developed a method for very fast and efficient removal of ice from surfaces, which consumes less than 1% of energy and copes with the task a hundred times faster than traditional defrosting methods.
Instead of the usual defrosting, in which all the ice melts from top to bottom, starting from the top layer, scientists have developed a method in which ice melts ice "from the inside": at the junction of ice and the surface. So in the lower layer water is formed, on which the ice cap slides.
The researchers decided to develop a new method of defrosting because current methods consume huge amounts of energy in refrigeration systems due to the need for periodic defrosting and the energy systems of buildings. According to the authors, the biggest source of inefficiency in conventional systems is that most of the energy used to process "antifreeze" is used to heat other components of the system, rather than heating ice or ice.
So the scientists proposed to apply a pulse of very strong current to the place where the ice and the surface meet to form a layer of water. To ensure that the pulse reaches the correct space and does not affect the top layer, a thin coating of indium tin oxide (ITO), a semiconductor film often used for thawing, is applied to the surface of the material. Gravity does the rest.
To test their method, the scientists thawed a small glass surface chilled to minus 15,1 degrees Celsius - about the same temperature in the warmest parts of Antarctica - and minus 71 degrees Celsius - which is even colder than in the coldest regions of Antarctica. . A test with very low temperatures made it possible to check whether the new method can be applied in the aerospace industry. In all tests, the ice was removed using a current pulse in less than one second.
The group has yet to test their method on more difficult surfaces, such as aircraft wings. But this is a matter of the near future.
