Good putty for sealing cracks in mahogany and walnut represents the following composition. Take 15 weight parts of cottage cheese and carefully squeeze out all the water from it in a linen rag. The more thoroughly the water is squeezed out, the better. Then the cottage cheese is thoroughly ground and 8 parts by weight of elutriated chalk in powder and 8 parts by weight of egg white are added to it.

All this mixture is well rubbed until a possibly homogeneous mass is obtained, to which, depending on the color of plywood, ocher or Kassel paint is added, everything is stirred again and with a spatula (wide knife) is pressed into the cracks of the tree and allowed to dry. After that, the sealed places are polished.

This putty holds firmly even in deep cracks. It is only necessary to keep in mind that the putty hardens quickly, and therefore it is prepared each time in the required amount.

New technology increases LED brightness by seven times 29.09.2006

Researchers from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced the creation of a new type of LED - resonant cavity LED (RCLED), which is seven times brighter than traditional LEDs, reports Nanotechweb.

This was achieved by additionally etching 130-nm circular Bragg gratings onto the surface of the device. According to the researchers, the new technology can be applied in optocoherence tomography and other medical imaging tools.

Now scientists are planning to transfer the experience of amplifying light radiation in nanostructures to various nanophotonic devices - primarily to optophotonic transistors.
