Pencils for writing on glass, porcelain and metal can be prepared from the following composition: 4 parts by weight of spermaceti, 3 parts of lard and 2 parts of wax. Then, depending on what color they want to have pencils, 6 parts of dry paint are added to this mixture.

The mass made in this way remains to be molded in the form of sticks, and the pencils are ready. They can write and make notes equally well without spoiling the glass, porcelain or metal itself.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

A luminous bandage will warn about the inflammation of the burn 07.04.2013

Scientists have developed a medical bandage that can signal that an infection has entered the wound. In this case, under an ultraviolet lamp, it begins to glow, giving the doctor a signal that it is time to do something. This is a very important invention, especially in the case of children's burns, when it takes several days to check if the wound is infected - this period can become critical for preschool children, since they have very weak immunity. Infection in this case can cause toxic shock syndrome, which in 50% of cases, if not properly treated, can be fatal.

"If there's pathogenic bacteria in the wound, our dressings just change color when exposed to UV light," said Dr. Toby Jenkins of the University of Bath, one of the developers of the innovation.

The bandage, created by scientists, contains nanocapsules containing a dye. When they come into contact with toxins released by harmful bacteria, they become activated and simply rupture, thereby signaling that an infection has been detected. Spots of paint begin to glow in ultraviolet rays. And doctors can see it right away.

"Rapid diagnosis of infections has always been a big challenge. It takes 24 to 28 hours to tell if a wound is infected," explains Dr. Toby Jenkins. doctors that the patient may have an infection and there is not a minute to lose."
