In apartments with paired window blocks there are no vents: their role is played by narrow window sashes. This is justified in the summer, and even then in good weather; in the rain, if it is also with wind or a scythe, water pours through the transom. In winter, it’s completely uncomfortable: if you open it wide, it’s cold, and if you open it a little, a frosty wind comes through a narrow gap. That is why often the top of the sash is overhauled under an ordinary window leaf.

However, the craftsmen have developed for such windows an unconventional vent scheme - sliding. It does not open, but moves vertically up and down. Moreover, it is designed in such a way that it is almost invisible even from the room, not to mention the fact that its equipment of modern windows does not violate the architectural appearance of the facade of the building.

She does it this way. Beads and both glasses are carefully removed from the narrow sash; on top of the glass "diamond" cut pieces 250-300 mm long. The remaining parts are put in place. Previously, on the frame, the upper part of the groove under the glass is cleaned under the rubber gasket. Approximately at the border of the cleaned area, the glazing beads are cut, their lower part is narrowed for the passage of the lowered part of the glass. Above, a strip of rubber of equal thickness is laid into the hole. A new glass is placed on top - it is about 20 mm longer than the removed one - and pressed with the rest of the glazing bead so that the glass can move down with little friction. In its upper part, a stick-handle made of plexiglass is glued on BF-2 or waterproof glue "Phoenix" - the window is ready. It remains to clean and re-paint the disturbed areas.

The sliding window is convenient in all respects. She is not afraid of the wind and does not flap under its gusts; located on top, it is practically inaccessible to rain, at the same time it is more advantageous for normal air circulation and regulation of its inflow, as it is fixed at any level when shifting down and back up. The ev scheme has been tested in practice and fully justifies itself in operation.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Prosthetic eye with night vision 29.05.2020

Scientists from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology have presented a prototype of an artificial electrochemical eye, the structure and principle of which are similar to an ordinary human eye.

Wires that mimic the visual cortex of the brain transmit the visual information collected by these sensors to a computer for processing. And the nanowires are so sensitive that they can surpass the optical wavelength range of the human eye, allowing the bionic eye to respond to wavelengths of 800 nm, that is, to work on the threshold between visual light and infrared radiation.

This means that the device can see things in the dark, when the human eye can no longer distinguish anything. According to the developers, the owner of such an eye will acquire the ability of night vision. The researchers also claim that the eye can respond to changes in light faster than the human eye, allowing it to adjust to changing conditions in less time.

Each square centimeter of the artificial retina can hold about 460 million nanoscale sensors. Then in the human retina there are about 10 million cells per square centimeter.

The scientists now intend to focus on being able to connect this bionic eye to the human visual system.
