A scraper or plow is indispensable when processing curved surfaces. Making them is quite simple - all you need is an old file about 200 mm long. First of all, the file must be heat treated. Having previously sanded a small area, gradually heat the file evenly along its entire length until a red-brown oxide film appears on the sanded area, after which the file is cooled in water or in air. Such heat treatment will reduce the brittleness of the steel, while maintaining a hardness that is quite sufficient for the cutting edge of the plow.

In the middle of the file, a sample is made about 50 mm long, the width of the file in this place should be about 15 mm.

To obtain a cutting edge, grind the inside of the groove at an angle of about 30°. When processing, do not overheat the metal, it may lose hardness and wear resistance. A characteristic sign of overheating is the appearance of temper colors on the blade.

Remove the file shank. This can also be done with a hacksaw, since the steel was "released" during heat treatment. It remains to dull the sharp edges on the tool and bring the blade on the bar and whetstone - and the plow is ready to work.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Lexus RZ 450e electric crossover 26.04.2022

The official presentation of the Lexus RZ 450e electric car took place. This is the brand's first all-electric crossover.

The Lexus RZ 450e electric car received a 71,4 kWh battery that provides a range of up to 225 miles (about 362 km) when using 18-inch tires. You can also install 20-inch tires on the car, but the range in this configuration is not specified.

The car uses the Direct4 all-wheel drive system, which automatically distributes traction between the front and rear wheels depending on the road surface and the driving style of the driver. Thus, it provides "improved acceleration at start-up, stable handling and low power consumption." Electric motors transmit 150 kW and 80 kW of power to the front and rear wheels, respectively.

Inside, the car offers a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a panoramic sunroof that extends from the front seats to the rear. In addition to the standard steering wheel, an optional steering wheel can be offered, reminiscent of racing car devices.

The Lexus RZ 450e electric crossover has a length of 4805 mm, a width of 1895 mm and a height of 1635 mm. The wheelbase is 2850 mm.

The new Lexus RZ 450e electric car will go on sale at the end of 2022. Its price has not yet been announced. The recently introduced Toyota BZ4X crossover costs $42 and up. Considering Lexus is a more premium brand, the RZ 450e should be priced higher.
