Helleborus. Legends, myths, history

Helleborus

Hellebore, wintering, helleborus is a herbaceous rhizomatous perennial that grows in nature on the limestone slopes of the Alps and in the Balkans.

They say that the Bethlehem shepherds, having learned about the birth of the Savior, decided to bring gifts to him. And only one shepherd did not find a gift. He was upset and wept bitterly. And in the place where the tears fell on the snow, beautiful flowers suddenly appeared. Rejoiced, the boy collected a large bouquet and brought it to the baby Christ. So there was a tradition to give Christmas, or snow, roses on this joyful day.

Giving helleborus or hellebore in a pot or in a bouquet at Christmas is a typical German custom. There is no other country where Helleborus is in such great demand on the eve of the holiday. In Germany, hellebore is grown in many flower farms.

All species prefer semi-shady places. They are grown in gardens, parks, propagated by division of rhizomes and seeds, in greenhouses - for cutting and winter forcing.

Helleborus

Helleborus was used to make incense, which in turn was included in the incense during meditation. He contributed not to a relaxed, contemplative state, but, on the contrary, could lead a person into ecstasy, make a person imagine himself in a different body, bring himself to a frenzy with visions and frenzied dancing.

Witches did not often use this plant themselves, but with its help they could induce someone else into ecstasy.

Hellebore was thrown into lamps or candlesticks for objectionable characters, hellebore could, with someone’s light hand, end up in a church censer during worship, bringing Christians who came to the service to a completely inadequate state.

Such actions were not subject to any malicious intent, but rather turned out to be a kind of joke.

It is about the hellebore that they say that its root is the oldest chemical weapon; in the XNUMXth century BC, by order of the sage Solomon, they poisoned the population of the ancient Greek city.

Hellebore was included in some recipes for "flying" ointments, visions after such ointments resembled, according to the descriptions, what is now often called astral travel.

There was a belief that hellebore could make a person invisible: one has only to take the root of black hellebore, dry it in a certain way, grind it and scatter it on the floor, as one who stepped into a circle from it will become invisible.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

The world may go coal-free 12.03.2021

The UN Secretary-General believes that the world can move away from coal in three stages and focus on the development of clean energy sources.

G7 members may announce a phase-out of dependence on coal for electricity at the June 2021 summit. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres shared his hopes for this at a meeting organized by Britain and Canada on the use of coal in the energy sector.

Guterres has said it's time for the world to move away from coal, which he considers "the dirtiest fossil fuel in the world." Which, moreover, constantly rises in price. He is convinced that mines need to be closed, not forgetting to provide jobs for employees of power plants and miners. They can find a job if the world develops renewable energy sources.

The head of the United Nations emphasized that every fifth death in the world is associated with environmental pollution, the cause of which is the use of fossil fuels. He believes that by 2030 the world can abandon coal by 80% and proposes to do this in three stages.

The first is the cancellation of all planned coal-fired power plant projects and the end of coal dependency. The second stage is the termination of international financing of coal-fired power plants, the switching of investment flows to projects related to renewable energy sources. The third is the creation of new jobs through the development of clean energy sources.
