Tourists by the fire, of course, are warm, but what is it like in a tent at night? You can't light a fire here, and you can't really warm it with a candle, and it's dangerous.

However, the tourist brethren are cunning for inventions. Experienced Moscow hikers A. Rokshin and L. Tsukanov found a witty way of unusual "steam" heating tents. After all, the fire is nearby, how can one not use the generous heat of the fire. And they figured out how.

...Here, a place for a halt has been determined, a tent has been set up, and at the required distance from it, branches are already crackling in the fire and pots are being hung for cooking simple tourist food. It's time to take care of a warm overnight stay. To do this, a piece of metal pipe is placed in the fire, the ends of which go beyond the burning poles and hot coals. To the end that faces the tent, a hose or several tubular sections going into it (with a diameter and a connection similar to a vacuum cleaner) are connected: heated air will be removed from the pipe in the fire through them, and cold air will be sucked into the other end of the pipe. And in order for its draft to be good, it is advisable to lay the "pipeline" so that it goes along an inclined upwards to the tent: the steeper, the more intense the flow of heated air. So that it is not too hot, the pipe in the fire can be wrapped with asbestos or coated with clay. You can regulate the temperature of the air entering the tent by covering or blocking any of the openings of the "pipeline". Such heating is quite safe, it can be safely left overnight, as long as the fire will burn and smolder.

Interestingly, the principle itself, if you think about it, is quite universal and can be applied not only for the purposes described.

"Disposable" bath

For tourists or geologists on a long-distance expedition, the described technology will help organize a steam bath in the field. A spacious tent is suitable for this, and if there is none, it is easy to build it from a film for greenhouses, throwing it over the cords stretched between the trees and pressing its edges to the ground with stones. It remains only to bring the described "pipeline" from the fire. And while the water in the buckets suspended over the fire will warm up, the bath will also heat up, to the delight of travelers who miss civilization.

For such a steam room, you can prepare everything you need in advance at home and take the appropriate components on a hike, since they do not represent such an overall or burdensome load.

Frosts are not terrible

In summer cottages, amateur gardeners who grow plants in greenhouses have a lot of trouble with a sharp cold snap or nighttime spring frosts, the appearance of which is usually completely unpredictable.

Heating of tourist tent: 1-tent; 2-outlet end of the heating pipe; 3-component links of the "pipeline"; 4-fire pipe; 5-inlet pipe end (air intake)

Using a fire pit to heat a greenhouse

However, "fire heating" can also help out here in a period that is dangerous for plants. It is enough just to prepare a fire pit in advance and lay a suitable hose or pipe from it to the greenhouse, and light a fire at the time of the onset of low temperatures, since there are no problems with firewood in the areas. It remains only to control the degree of heating of the air in the greenhouse and, if necessary, ventilate in order to maintain the optimum temperature for the plants.

And the ice will melt

Where water supply is organized through standpipes, in frosty winters it is not uncommon for them to freeze when an ice plug does not let water through. Then it is worth remembering the described technology in order to unfreeze the column. To do this, it will be necessary to build an impromptu cover around it from sheet material (cardboard packaging, linoleum or roofing material) and supply hot air from a nearby fire to it. After some time, the ice in the column will melt and the water supply will be restored.

The same method will help out if any section of the water pipe is frozen. The corresponding place is also put on a temporary cover made of heat-preserving materials, and hot air is supplied to it by a hose from the fire chimney.

Heat sink from a fire for warming up a frozen water column: 1 - column; 2-case; 3-binding of cover sheets; 4 - heat removal hose from the fire; 5-rags

Warming up a frozen water pipe: 1-water pipe; 2 - case; 3-blockage of the cover with rags; 4 - coupler sheets of the cover; 5-hose for heat removal from the fire

Such covers are screwed onto the water pipe loosely and overlapped, and pulled together with a cord or wire on top. The end openings of the cover are covered with stuffing from old newspapers or rags. If necessary, the end of the pipeline from the fire included in the cover is also fixed with wire.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Rapidly charged quantum battery 28.03.2022

Scientists from South Korea have developed a quantum technology that will speed up the charging of an electric car by 200 times.

Researchers at the Center for Theoretical Physics of Complex Systems at the Institute for Basic Sciences (IBS) have turned to quantum entanglement to speed up the relatively slow charging of electric vehicle batteries. They suggested a way to charge all the energy cells at the same time.

Despite the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry, their batteries still have a lower energy density than combustible fuel, and driving range is very dependent on this. Currently, it takes about 10 hours to fully charge the battery at home, and when connected to the fastest charging stations, the process takes 20-40 minutes. Waiting times remain a big disadvantage of electric vehicles compared to diesel or petrol vehicles, which take seconds to refuel.

The researchers proposed a specific way to develop a quantum battery, and also determined the approximate rate of its charging. According to their conclusion, if in classical batteries the maximum charging rate increases linearly with the number of elements, then in quantum batteries it increases quadratically, that is, many times at once.

For example, they proposed a car battery containing about 200 cells - the use of quantum entanglement will increase the charging speed by about 200 times compared to classical technology. As a result, the charging time in the home garage will be reduced from 10 hours to 3 minutes, and at specialized stations - from half an hour to a few seconds.

Quantum charging can be widely applied not only to electric vehicles, but also to consumer electronics. In addition, they can be used in future fusion power plants, which require large amounts of energy to charge and discharge.
