Как determine the distance from the shadow of an object?

We put a stick vertically in the shade of a tree not far from its top and measure the length of the part of the stick covered with a shadow.

Then VB / AB = DG / AG, whence DG = AG * VB / AB, i.e., dividing the length of the shadowed part of the stick by the distance from it to the top of the tree shadow and multiplying this number by the length of the shadow from the tree, we get the height of the tree or any other item.

Example. The length of the stick is 2 m, and its shadow is 1,5 m, therefore, the height of the object is proportionally greater than the length of its shadow.

When the shadow of a stick is equal to its length, then the height of the object is also equal to the length of its shadow.
