Here comes the summer. Where are you going to spend it? If not far from the water, we propose to build an original floating facility - aquaped, that is, a water bicycle. It will give you the opportunity to sit on the morning dawn with a fishing rod, ride on the pond, explore its most hidden corners.

What is the originality of our aquaped? Instead of floats, he has a canvas or oilcloth boat, and instead of paddle wheels, he has a propeller. But this is not the point. Its design uses two things that "can't swim": a folding bed and a hand drill.

The frame of the bed made of aluminum tubes serves as the skeleton of the boat, you only need to remove the canvas top from the outdated folding bed and connect the tubes below with three wooden slats with a section of 40x25 mm. They are fastened with clamps made of aluminum strips 2-3 mm thick and small bolts with nuts.

Aquaped (click to enlarge): 1,10 - medium wooden rail, 2 - propeller shaft, 3 - drill, 4 - small bicycle sprocket, 5 - chain, 6 - boat frame, 7,20 - clamps for fastening the rails to the frame, 8,23 ,9,14,19 - side rails, 11 - bolts with nuts, 12 - casing, 13 - propeller, 15 - steering pen clamp, 16 - steering pen axis, 17 - steering lever, 10 - steering pen (plywood 18 thick mm), 21 - hole for the steering pen clamp, 22 - rubber gland, 24 - nylon cord, XNUMX - pedal assembly.

The lining of the boat is made of waterproof tarpaulin, tent fabric or oilcloth on a fabric basis. Sew pieces of it on a sewing machine, glue the seams with Moment glue and strips of the same material. Fix the sheathing stretched over the frame - tighten it with a drawstring (nylon cord, threaded along the upper edge of the sheathing). Put the finished boat on the water: is it stable, does it get wet? Everything is fine? Then proceed to the manufacture of the power drive. Its main part is a drill. Well, if it is two-speed, it will be possible to experiment - to choose the optimal gear ratio from the pedals to the propeller shaft. On a drill, replace the handle with a small bicycle sprocket - attach it with three or four bolts and nuts. You will also need a pedal assembly cut from the frame of an old bicycle. Install both the drill and the pedal assembly at the bottom of the boat (on the middle wooden rail). Connect the large and small sprockets with a bicycle chain.

For the propeller shaft, take a steel or duralumin bar about 10 mm in diameter with a thread at one end. Clamp the rod in the drill chuck, and bring the threaded end out through the hole in the casing of the boat. To prevent water from penetrating into this hole, put an oil seal - a rubber washer, the inner diameter of which is slightly smaller than the diameter of the shaft.

Cut the propeller shaft from an aluminum sheet 2-3 mm thick, bend the blades to it, put it on the threaded end of the shaft and secure it with a nut.

That, in fact, is all. It remains to install the seat and steering gear. It consists of a steering pen, partially submerged in water, and a handle for which the aquapedist holds. The design of the pen and the way it is hung on the boat are shown in the figure. But we suggest thinking about the design of the handle in order to make it more convenient.
