The underwater glider, or aquon, is not a toy, but a practical mechanism that allows the swimmer to travel long distances and still develop sufficient speed. It is convenient in that it gives freedom to the hands, so that the swimmer can easily use both the speargun and the movie camera. Aquan requires less effort to move than fins.

Akvon consists of an aluminum barrel 1 with a bearing 5, a wooden wing 2 with a keel 7, wooden stabilizers 10, 12, two plastic pressure plates 11, 13 and a nylon cord 17 with a spring 14.

Stabilizers give the glider stability, and movable wooden blades (wing), moving up and down and acting like twin oars, create traction.

When swimming with an aquon, the swimmer uses a mask and snorkel, his body makes movements similar to those of a dolphin, and he only controls the runes.

Installation

Start making Akvon with the preparation of materials and tools. All wooden structural elements are made of wood with a high specific gravity, such as birch or larch. The carrier pipe should be as thin-walled and light as possible. For the manufacture of pressure plates, 5 mm sheet plexiglass is suitable. All structural elements are connected with conventional screws and screws.

After you have made all the details, start assembling the akvon, following this sequence.

Assembly of the bow

Insert the bearing into the race 4 and fix it with screws. For more reliable fastening of the bearing in the cage, make small recesses for the screws on its outer ring. Put the bearing fixed in the holder onto the axle 3, install spacers 6 on both sides and connect it with screws to the wing.

Tail Assembly

Clamp the bar 8 in a vice (notches up), install the stabilizers and the support bar 9 and fasten the entire structure with screws. Fix the pressure plates 11 and 13 and the screw 15 for the spring.

Final assembly

Connect the wing and tail to the carrier tube 1 and install the keel 7. Hook the spring to the hook and connect it with a small piece of cord to the ring 16. Tie a knot at the end of another cord 17, thread the cord through the hole in the right plane of the wing and pass through the ring. Now, without tensioning the springs, pass the cord through the hole on the left wing plane and tie a second knot. Akvon assembled.

Adjustment

Dip the aquan into the water and, holding it by the tail section and the carrier pipe, begin to quickly raise it to the surface. The spring must be calibrated so that the wing can go down as far as it will go. The tension of the spring is adjustable with a cord.

The distance between the pressure plates and stabilizers is determined empirically. The plate should tightly fit the swimmer's legs, but in no case should they hold them. The design of our akvon is designed for the athlete to hold it with his feet and, if necessary, can immediately free himself from the glider.

The wooden elements of the aquon should not be painted and varnished, as the wood must absorb water. To prevent the aquon from floating up, hold it in the water before the walk.

If, nevertheless, the aquan emerges and it is difficult to control it, then weight the aquan wing with metal plates. But in no case do not tie it to your legs. This can lead to an accident!

Regularly clean the bearing from sand and dirt and lubricate it with technical grease, vaseline or CIATIM grease.
