PERSONAL TRANSPORT: GROUND, WATER, AIR
Bicycle kayak. Personal transport Directory / Personal transport: land, water, air Every summer and autumn, young tourists go on exciting trips around their native land; participants of the game "Zarnitsa" are waiting for a variety of routes to places of military glory. There are many among the children and lovers of water travel - on rafts, boats. Their capabilities have significantly expanded with the introduction of a well-thought-out design of the two-seat collapsible kayak "Salyut-M 4,7" into the wide market. Stable and propulsive, with a sufficient margin of carrying capacity and excellent cross-country ability, the kayak allows you to make transitions through the most "deaf" places. However, the organizers of kayaking hikes often experience difficulties in providing quick communication, if necessary, with a railway station, a settlement, a medical institution. It was this circumstance that predetermined our work on an unusual design, which we called an amphibious motorbike. Its development was carried out by the public design bureau of the department of technology of the Palace of Pioneers of the Vyborg district of Leningrad. The design was based on a kayak, a road bike and a D-6 engine (D-5 can also be used). As a result, we got a universal means of transportation both on water and on land: a catamaran with a motorbike drive and a motorbike with a transport trolley for transporting kayaks in disassembled or assembled form, and, if necessary, a tourist who is sick or injured during a hike. The comparative simplicity of the resulting amphibious motorbike and its successful use for several seasons give reason to offer it to groups of water and hiking enthusiasts.
The base of the trolley is a duralumin tube with a clamping sleeve in the middle and a socket for the connecting rod. On the left and right, steel spacers enter telescopically into this beam, to which racks of bicycle forks are welded. Spacers can be fixed in two positions: narrow gauge for transporting a folded kayak packed in a bag; wide track - for towing an unassembled kayak.
On the shore, the cart is separated into small units that easily fit in the aft compartment of the boat. The wheels of the trolley are standard "dutiks" from a scooter. They are mounted on a telescopic axle, and on the water they also fit into a kayak. To fix the unassembled kayak on the trolley, you will need to attach a duralumin rectangle with a locking pin to the kilsons. Next, with flanges put on a pipe-beam, we connect the left and right bulwarks with the trolley; the rod is first inserted into the locking socket on the kayak and pinned. The working position of the racks is given by means of a coupling; attach them to the axle with wheels. The bicycle is hung on the frame of the left kayak on two tubular racks - brackets connected to the axles of the wheels and the upper part of the frame. Additional tubes are welded to the lower bases of the brackets, into which bushings with M6 threaded holes are inserted in the center. The tubes enter between the slats - kilsons of the kayak and are fixed with screws through the holes in them. The right kayak is connected by a horizontal bar attached with plates to the bulwark to the axle of the rear wheel of the bicycle, an inclined one to the frame, and with the help of an elongated tubular bar to the axle of the front wheel. Instead of the second kayak, it is possible to use a float (shown in dotted line in the figure).
The steering device is located on the second frame of the left kayak. It consists of a steering wheel (on its axis there is an asterisk Z = 9), a bicycle chain 400 mm long, two transfer rollers, left and right steering cables. To facilitate installation and adjust their tension, a lanyard is mounted on the tiller. The photographs give an idea of the design of the high-speed amphibious scheme, similar to the Polynesian catamaran, but the authors recommend assembling the design of two Salyut kayaks - this not only reduces the amount of work, but also puts the amphibian on an equal footing with those who go on oars. The catamaran propulsion drive consists of a gearbox (from the Moskva outboard motor), a stern tube with a shaft, a corundum friction roller (GOST-46-22), a propeller mounting bracket, a cable guide with a spring and a locking handle that ensures tight pressing of the friction roller to the wheel tread. The propeller is brass, two-bladed (Ø 290 mm, pitch 270 mm), with a segmented blade profile. At maximum engine speed, it creates an emphasis on the mooring lines of about 17 kg. Engine cooling - water. Water intake is carried out by installing a profiled wing soldered from brass above the rear wheel of the bicycle. Its contour allows collecting water jets entrained by the wheel tread into the wing accumulator. Further, the outboard water by gravity, having passed through the filter, is directed to the intake pipe of the water jacket of the engine cylinder. The drain pipe of the shirt ends with a rubber hose, which plays the role of a dosing tap. The estimated portion of water passing through the cooling jacket of an engine operating in the optimal mode is 100-120 g/min. Shirt Ø 100 mm and height 47 mm is made of duralumin S=1,5 mm. Its top is welded to the first cooling rib of the cylinder, and the bottom base is welded to the seventh. Five internal ribs are sawn down to 2/3 of their width. When towing a kayak for a distance of 3-5 km, you can not replace the cylinder head with a conventional land one, but use a soft container placed in a backpack and a rubber hose.
