Snowmobile designers know that it is unprofitable to directly connect the crankshaft of the engine and the propeller: too high engine speeds make it impossible to use the air propulsion unit in the optimal mode. To reduce the speed of the screw, amateur designers use chain gearboxes, flat-toothed belts, and multi-ribbed V-belt transmissions. You can also find the most reliable and compact single-stage gear reducers. As a rule, however, they are quite complex. The simplest design was developed by M. Psarev, one of the enthusiasts of amateur "aerosanitation" from the city of Tchaikovsky, Perm Region. The manufacturability of its mechanism is evidenced at least by the fact that it was "produced" in a kind of microseries - it was repeated at least five times. Today we introduce you to the drawings and manufacturing technology of this gearbox.

A single-stage gearbox with helical gears PV-1 (Fig. 1) is designed to work in tandem with engines of the M-72 and K-750 types. Its gear ratio is 1,9.

The body of the mechanism consists of a cover and a crankcase, cast from an aluminum alloy. In particular, for this I melted the pistons and crankcases of old engines in a home-made cupola. Casting was carried out on wooden models in a sand mold. The models themselves are simple - they were assembled from plywood, carpentry glue and nails, followed by impregnation with drying oil and enamel painting. The bearing caps were cast in the same way.

Reducer gears - from the gearbox of the Volga car. For the leading one, a gear wheel from the input shaft of the box with the number of teeth Z = 15 came up. The driven has 29 teeth.

Gears are attached to the shafts by electric welding.

The processing of the gearbox housing begins with the mutual adjustment of the cover and crankcase. After that, the holes are cut, the parts are connected to each other with M6 bolts. On it, the crankcase is installed in a three-jaw chuck of a lathe (228 mm in diameter) and the parting plane is trimmed to a size of 109 mm. After the final adjustment, the crankcase cover is attached to the latter with eight bolts.

The next operation is the processing of holes for bearings. To do this, a through hole is drilled in the assembled housing on the same lathe, after which a seat for the input shaft bearing is bored in the cover. Next, the cover is removed, and holes for the bearing and stuffing box are machined in the housing. It remains to trim the inner wall of the crankcase, which is 43 mm from the plane of the connector.

To process the landing shoulder (Ø 228 mm), you will have to machine a mandrel - a cylinder with an external Ø 46 mm.

On the mandrel, the crankcase is fixed with a bolt or pressed by the rotating center of the tailstock.

Further processing of the crankcase must be carried out in a four-jaw chuck of a lathe. The part should be clamped in it in such a way that the distance between the axis of the already divided hole and the axis of rotation of the cartridge is 74,6 mm (center-to-center distance for a gear pair). The sequence of operations when boring holes for bearings and seals is almost the same as for the output shaft.

The manufacture of the remaining parts and the assembly of the gearbox are unlikely to cause any special difficulties.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

The music department was found in the brain 26.12.2015

We can easily distinguish music from speech or, for example, from the sound of footsteps by ear. But does this mean that there are special areas in our brain tuned specifically to the sounds of music, or does the musical zones actually combine several functions, and music recognition is just one of them? Neuroscientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology argue that the first is true - there are indeed neurons in the auditory cortex dedicated to musical information.

The experiment involved 10 people who listened to a variety of things: music, and speech, and telephone calls, and the noise of a passing car, etc. The listener's brain was scanned in a magnetic resonance groups of cells. The limit of functional MRI is hundreds of thousands or millions of neurons, and if, for example, differences in activity occur in two adjacent cell clusters, each of which has 500 thousand neurons, then fMRI will see this, but if there are 10 thousand, or a thousand cells, then no longer, these zones will merge into one, even if their activity will be very different.

However, this time the researchers managed to find a way out with the help of improved fMRI data processing, which made it possible to distinguish relatively small (tens of thousands) groups of neurons. As a result, six groups of cells were found in the auditory cortex, which were characterized by sound specialization, that is, they predominantly responded to sounds of a certain kind or a certain characteristic of sound. One of the groups turned out to be musical, the other - speech, the rest tracked the general acoustic parameters (height and frequency).

The cerebral cortex responsible for the perception of sounds is very heterogeneous in function, and the authors of the work emphasize that the speech and musical groups of neurons did not intersect with the primary auditory cortex, while the other four found neural clusters just overlapped with it. The primary auditory cortex is the first "instance" to which the signal comes from the receptors in the inner ear. Here, the most common acoustic features are analyzed, the same frequency and pitch, and therefore, obviously, neurons specializing in such parameters are turned on at the first stages of sound information processing.

But to define a sound as speech or music, more complex, abstract work is required. It must be emphasized that here we are talking specifically about the sounds of music and speech, and, for example, there are other sections in the cortex for a meaningful analysis of what was said, just like the emotions that we experience from our favorite song can be seen in special emotional centers. And the musical neural group, which we managed to identify, most likely works in the closest connection with emotional and cognitive centers, so that a specialized response to music arises in it, among other things, as a result of signals that came from other "departments".

In the future, the researchers want to find out if there is an even more detailed specialization in the found group of cells, that is, whether there are neurons of melody, rhythm, etc. But here everything depends on whether it will be possible to further increase the resolution of neurobiological methods.
