Focus Description:

The magician shows four cards, and then they become different.

Focus secret:

For this trick you must have your cards ready. The edge of these cards should not differ from other cards. The front side of the cards is shown in Figure 19.

Fig. 19

These cards are placed at the bottom of the deck. You tell the audience that you are ready to show them a trick with four eights and a two of diamonds. If you have a deck of 32 cards, then you should have another two of diamonds, similar to the card from the deck.

You take the deck and look for four regular eights. While the audience is looking at them, you use the little finger of your left hand to separate the three lower prepared cards from the steel deck. When the spectators return the eights to you, you place them on top of the deck, but the eight of clubs must be on top. You give the two of diamonds to the audience to look at.

While the audience is looking at the two of diamonds, you make a volt so that the prepared cards are on top of the deck. When the two of diamonds is returned to you, you place the cards on the table and, taking the top four cards, fan them out, as shown in Figure 20. As you can see, only the eight of clubs is clearly visible, and half of the remaining cards are covered by others. It seems to the audience that these are the same eights that you just put on top of the deck.

Now you place the two of diamonds behind the eight of clubs and place this card, upside down, on the table. Fold and unfold the cards as in Figure 21, i.e., unfold the cards from the other end. The audience sees four deuces.

Again we replace the eight of clubs with the two of diamonds and turn over the false two of hearts. This can be done with the words: I have to touch something black. I'll use the sleeve of my jacket. I will run each card down the sleeve and return it to its place. This makes all the cards black." And you unfold the cards. The spectators really only see cards of black suit.

Again, put the two of diamonds instead of the eight of clubs, touch something red and turn over the cards, as in Figure 22. Putting the eight of clubs again in place of the two of diamonds, you put four cards back into the deck, make a volt so that all the prepared cards are at the bottom, and the usual eights went on top.

You can prepare a variety of special cards for such tricks. For example, one card can have different suits and figures. But we think this makes the trick somewhat worse, because more incredible transformations increase the suspicion that special cards are being used.

During the trick, we talked several times about the need to turn over the cards without arousing suspicion among the audience. To do this, you need to hold the cards in a fan in your left hand. The thumb of this hand should be on the front side of the cards, and the rest on the back. After showing the cards, you turn them over to face you, and with the thumb and index finger of your right hand, form a fan. After that, taking them by the upper end, place them face down on the table. Now their lower ends are further away from you and you just have to take the cards by the ends that are closer to you. This simple technique must be well practiced because it is the basis of this trick.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Immunity saves tattoos 11.03.2018

Our skin is regularly updated, and this applies not only to the epidermis, in which the replacement of old cells with new ones takes only a month, but also to a deeper layer - the dermis. But if the skin is renewed, then why do tattoos stay on it for so long?

To understand why the tattoo pigment doesn't fade away as the skin renews itself, researchers from the French Institute INSERM tattooed the tails of mice and observed how the skin cells behave.

When ink gets into the skin during tattooing, it attracts the attention of macrophage immune cells. Their function is to eat everything alien and potentially dangerous. Pigment particles are also perceived by macrophages as something that should neutralize, and absorb them. But the macrophages themselves don't live very long either. It would seem that after the death of the macrophage, the paint that was in it can now come off along with the dying particles of the skin.

However, this "orphan" paint is picked up by other macrophages that have replaced the dead ones. In the experiment, mice a few weeks after the tattoo were given an injection that killed all macrophages in the skin (without harm to the health of animals) - however, the tattoo remained in place: new cells came to where it was and absorbed the paint that was found in the intercellular space of the dermis .

In another experiment, a piece of tattooed skin was transplanted from one mouse to another, and after six weeks, all the dye that was in the transplanted skin passed from the cells of one mouse (donor mouse) to the cells of another. According to the authors of the work, immune macrophages are the only cells in the skin that can absorb tattoo pigment, and tattoos remain on the skin for so long precisely because of this ability, and also because macrophages pick up the paint left after dead cells.

It is known that many people would like to reduce their tattoos, but now it takes quite a long time to erase a tattoo. It is possible that the process can be accelerated if macrophages on the tattooed area of the skin are purposefully destroyed for a while - of course, doing this in such a way as not to damage the immune system as a whole.
