PERSONAL TRANSPORT: GROUND, WATER, AIR
Boat trolley. Personal transport Directory / Personal transport: land, water, air The height of summer in the Subpolar Urals. Together with the head of the survey party, we were returning from the upper reaches of the Shchekurya River. Having overcome the last kurum on the slope, we saw an unusual procession: along the animal-hunting path that winds literally along every river, even in the most taiga places, tanned guys were slowly moving, pushing loaded carts in front of them. And although they were on narrow "dutiks" and bounced on protruding rhizomes, the group went forward without difficulty. The carts, not wide and not long, passed well among the bushes and young growth, fitting into the "dimensions" of the trail. "Isn't it easier to pack everything in backpacks than to drag a cart along with you?" we asked. The answer turned out to be unexpected: "The only superfluous thing here is the wheels, the rest belongs to the boats: they, as they say, carry themselves." Indeed, upon closer examination, all the details turned out to be parts of a dinghy. Even the handles were bulwark bars. The main condition that I tried to comply with when building a cart for transporting the Meva dinghy was the mandatory use of parts from the boat itself in its design. Except perhaps the wheels: as you know, they are not included in the kit of the vessel. Moreover, it was necessary to focus on those nodes, the use of which would not weaken the hull, would not turn it into a self-folding one. They turned out to be sleighs and bulwarks. True, the first ones had to be somewhat modified, which, by the way, only benefited: the regular ones were clearly too narrow.
In the new variant of the slats, there are two slatted gratings, but one is rectangular 430x880 mm, and the other is in the form of a trapezoid with bases 800 and 880 mm. The sledges were used as a loading platform and the frame of the cart, and the bulwarks became its handles. I had to add small fastening details, the manufacture of which is not difficult.
The platform is a pair of longitudinal power bars measuring 10x10x889 mm made of oak or beech. On top of them are laid transverse flooring slats - 10x40x439 mm. The bars have special ledges 310 mm long. This size is determined by the location of the keelsons of the dinghy: the ledges, entering between them, secure the platform to the bottom of the cockpit when it is used for its main purpose. The frame consists of beams and slats of the same section. From below, in the forks of a bicycle type, wheels are installed - "dutiks" from a children's bicycle. The cheeks of the forks are attached to the frame in different ways: the outer ones are tightly on glue and screws, the inner ones are on hinged hinges, and in the working position they are additionally attracted to the bars with wing nuts. This is due to the fact that when packing the disassembled trolley into a bale, the wheels turn and press against the platform, they are covered with a frame from above and fastened with wheel axle bolts - a flat bale about 100 mm high is formed.
The material of the forks is a strip of duralumin 3x24x70 mm. The corners are also made of duralumin, the dimensions of the workpiece are 3x20x59 mm. It is better to take a piano loop, 70 mm long. Cheeks - wooden, 10x50x360 mm. The assembly of the cart is simple. First, the wheels are brought from the traveling position to the “combat” position: the inner cheeks of the forks are fixed with lambs on the frame bars, then the wheels are placed on the axle bolts d 8 mm. As handles, the bulwarks are attached to the platform and fastened with bolts, the platform is placed so that its protrusions go inside the frame - for their abutment against the bars of the latter, the internal width of the frame is limited to 310 mm with the help of bosses 25x30x50 mm in size. And the last - the constipation-turntable is rotated, fixing the platform put in place.
A trolley of this design was operated without accident for eight years. She helped well in the nearby Volakhs. Therefore, that additional weight - only 4 kg, which was added to the 72 g of the boat, I consider a moderate price for very tangible amenities. By the way, in this way you can transport the dinghy not only in the package, but also as a whole - not disassembled. In the first case, it will be three bales. All of them can be immediately loaded onto a trolley. And although it seems that the "dutiks" are the weak link in the design, however, more than once I had to carry a stack under 120 kg over a distance of 3 or even 5 km. If it is necessary to transport the boat without dismantling, then you can do it even easier: assemble a cart without handles - bulwarks, strengthen the Meva stronger with ropes, passing them under the bottom in the area of the centerboard well, and push by holding the transom or littered mast. To prevent the upholstery from rubbing against the platform during the move, lay something soft between them, for example, a sleeping bag.
