PERSONAL TRANSPORT: GROUND, WATER, AIR
Fin instead of screw. Personal transport Directory / Personal transport: land, water, air Each of you knows what fins are, maybe even swam with them. Inventor T. Akhmedov decided to make an underwater catamaran with a flipper similar to a whale's tail as a mover. And here's what he did. Look at the picture: in front of you is a model of such a catamaran. The body of the model is made of two floats. Rudders are installed in the bow of the hull. With their help, you can adjust the immersion depth of the model or let it go underwater horizontally. The model drives a mechanical drive. It consists of a crank-rocker mechanism, a chain hoist, flexible rods and rubber bands. Let's get acquainted with the model in more detail. In the figure, the numbers indicate: floats of the model body - 1, rudders - 2, front axle - 3 with four chain hoist rollers - 4, intermediate axle - 5 with two chain hoist rollers - 4, bracket - 6, crankshaft - 7, rear axle - 8, fin stem - 9, fin - 10, stops - 11, bushing - 12, connecting rod - 13, bearings - 14, rubber bands - 15 and flexible rods - 16. First, cut a cylinder with a diameter of 30 mm and a height of 300 mm from dense foam. Now it must be carefully cut along the longitudinal axis in half. With a sharp knife, cut off the ends of the blanks so that they have a streamlined shape. We got two floats - they form the hull of the catamaran. Front, intermediate and rear axles, bracket and crankshaft (knee radius 5-7 mm) have the same length - 100 mm. It is best to make them from steel wire with a diameter of 4 mm. Brass bushings with an inner diameter only 0,2 mm larger than the diameter of the axles give additional strength to the three axles listed. Pay attention to the drawings, which show how to attach the fin stem and bracket hooks. Rocker, connecting rod and fin stem should be soldered for greater strength with tin to short bushings. Hooks to the bracket are first pressed with several turns of copper wire with a diameter of 0,2 mm, which then must be carefully soldered with tin. Rubber bands work in tension, so their length is selected only after the final assembly of the body. Fishing line with a diameter of 0,7-0,8 mm will serve as flexible rods. Cut out the fin from a 120x80 mm sheet of tin. The workpiece must be bent along the longitudinal axis in half, make two cutouts, and round the edges, giving the appearance of a fin. The mechanical drive works as follows. First, remove the rubber bands 15 from the hooks of the bracket 6. Wind the flexible threads 16 on the crankshaft 7. After that, the rubber bands must be stretched, passed through the rollers 4 and fixed on the bracket 6. The fin stalk 9 is kept from turning with your fingers. Immerse the underwater catamaran model in water to a depth of 50 cm and release the fin stalk.
