PERSONAL TRANSPORT: GROUND, WATER, AIR
Pedal scooter. Personal transport Directory / Personal transport: land, water, air The word "scooter" is made up of two words: "self" and "rolls". Indeed, a scooter can roll itself for several tens of meters if you accelerate well. The technique of riding a scooter is known - you need to push off with your foot from the ground several times, and when the scooter slows down, you need to push off with the same foot several more times. The inconvenience is obvious: only the push leg really works. And after another week or two, mom will notice that the right shoe (if your pushing leg is right) is already pretty worn out compared to the left one. Looking at the picture, you will undoubtedly recognize the same scooter in the sports equipment. Only changes have been made to its design. On this scooter, both legs are jogging. It's just that they need to be repelled in a completely different way. We called our pedal scooter. As you can see, he has two of them: right and left. Unlike bicycle pedals, scooter pedals do not rotate, but oscillate. And they swing under the influence of the weight of a person who alternately presses them with his feet. Let's get acquainted with the principle of operation of a mechanical transmission. First, let's draw your attention to this: the mechanical drive of the left pedal is exactly the same as the right one. Therefore, there is no need to talk about each drive separately. Consider the drive of the left pedal for the simple reason that it is better visible in the figure. The drive consists of a pedal, a block, a drive sleeve on the rear axle, a lever with long and short arms, and a spring. Between themselves, the listed parts are connected by a cable. This connection is not easy. So let's get to know her in more detail. The end of the cable is tied to the pedal. Its middle part is thrown over the block and then wound four times on the bushing of the rear drive base. The opposite end of the cable is tied to the long arm of the lever. The short arm of the lever is connected by a spring. In the figure, the left pedal is shown in the initial - up position. This is where the drive stroke starts. Press the pedal with your foot. The pedal will begin to turn on the axis, while its rear part will begin to fall. The rope will follow her. The drive sleeve will begin to rotate, transmitting rotation to the wheels. Understand the role of the ratchet and the associated retainer and leaf spring. The spring presses on the latch. It engages with a ratchet, which is rigidly connected to the rear axle drive sleeve. During the working stroke, the ratchet mechanically connects the rear axle hub to the wheel. In this case, the main part of the potential energy is spent on the rotation of the wheels, and therefore on the movement of the scooter. And only a small part of this energy is accumulated by the stretching spring. After the pedal has taken a horizontal position and all the weight is transferred to the right pedal, the stretched spring returns the left pedal to its original position. The ratchet lock does not prevent reverse rotation of the drive sleeve. The right pedal drive works the same way, And now, having become acquainted with the principle of operation of the drives, you can begin to manufacture a scooter. Its main dimensions, the thickness of sheet steel and duralumin materials, the diameters of steel pipes and bars - you will find all this in the drawings. A few tips, I think, will be useful to you. You can adapt the steering column together with the front wheel from an old scooter. According to the known diameter of the front wheel, you will have to choose a pair of wheels for the rear axle. The wheels on the rear axle are fixed rigidly. Two drive bushings with ratchets are put on the same axle. In order for them to rotate independently of each other, an adapter sleeve should be placed between them. You will have to choose the strength of the springs yourself. One thing must be clear here: the springs must quickly return the pedals to their original position and constantly keep both cables taut. If the springs are too soft, the cables will jump off the blocks; if they are hard, it will be difficult to rotate the wheels and the legs will quickly get tired. Of course, the scooter will not work reliably the first time. We'll have to seriously work on the manufacture of all the details, adjust the tension of the cables. But then, the scooter will reward you both for good workmanship and for the first failures.
