Psoralea drupe, Psoralea drupacea bunge var. Cullen drupaceum. Botanical description, habitat and habitats, chemical composition, use in medicine and industry

Psoralea drupes

Perennial herbaceous plant with straight, branched, slightly woody stems at the base, 70-130 cm tall, of the leguminous family (Leguminosae).

The leaves are simple, rounded or oval, 3-4 cm long, 5-4 mm wide.

The flowers are whitish-lilac, collected in loose brushes. The fruit is a one-seeded, non-opening, nut-like bean, about 5 mm long, 3-3,5 mm wide.

Range and habitats. It grows in the foothills and low mountains of Central Asia. Often found as a weed.

Chemical composition. The fruits and roots of psoralea drupe contain furocoumarins psoralen and isopsoralen, which stimulate the formation of pigment in the skin when exposed to ultraviolet rays. A mixture of these substances called psoralen has been proposed as a photosensitizing drug.

Psoralea drupes

Application in medicine. Psoralen (Psoralenum) (B). Slightly yellowish crystalline powder with an aromatic odor. Used for vitiligo and alopecia areata.

Psoralen is taken orally at 0,005; 0,01 or 0,02 g 2-3 times a day 30 minutes before meals daily. The following daily doses are recommended for adults - 0,04-0,06 g, for children under 5 years old - 0,005 g, from 6 to 10 years old - 0,01 g, from 11 to 13 years old - 0,015 g, from 14 to 16 years old - 0,02 g. Unlike Beroxan, it is also prescribed for children under 5 years old.

Simultaneously with ingestion, a 0,1% solution of psoralen is applied with a pipette to depigmented areas of the skin. This procedure is carried out daily or every other day at night or 2-3 hours before irradiation. The course of treatment lasts 3-3,5 months. Repeated 2-3 courses, if necessary, are prescribed after 1-1,5 months. Psoralen is produced in powders and tablets of 0,005; 0,01 and 0,02 g, as well as in a 0,1% solution in 70% alcohol. Store in a place protected from light. Rp. Tabul. Psoraleni 0,01 N. 50 DS 12 tablets 2-3 times a day 30 minutes before meals.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing psoralea kostyankova:

Cultivation:

  • The plant prefers a sunny place and well-drained soil containing a lot of sand.
  • Planting is recommended in spring or early autumn, maintaining a distance of 30-50 cm between plants.
  • The planting depth should be approximately 2-3 cm, and then the plant should be watered.
  • The plant is quite drought-resistant, but requires regular watering in hot weather.
  • It is necessary to regularly weed around the plant, as well as feed it with organic fertilizer in spring and autumn.
  • It is not recommended to overfill the soil, as the plant does not tolerate stagnant water.
  • After flowering, flower stalks should be removed so that the plant does not waste energy on the formation of seeds.

Workpiece:

  • The healing properties of psoralea drupe have roots, so for use as a medicine, the plant should be dug up in the fall.
  • The roots should be washed and cleaned of dirt, then cut into pieces and dried in the shade at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees.

Storage:

  • You can store the roots in a paper or cloth bag in a cool and dry place.
  • The shelf life is approximately 2 years, after which the roots lose their medicinal properties and it is not recommended to use them for medical purposes.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Microrobots for the repair of underground utilities 08.01.2019

The UK has invested almost $9 million to develop microscopic robots that will repair and maintain various underground utilities. Leading US universities will take up the development, and if a good result is achieved, perhaps this will become a new word in the repair of urban communications.

Autonomous pipe inspection machines are no longer a novelty, but new versions of these machines differ in their purpose. With their help, it will be possible to solve the problems associated with the repair of pipes, such as: excavation of pits in the middle of the streets and dismantling of asphalt.

It is planned to teach robots to independently repair various damage to pipes, which will first need to be found. For this, special robots have been created that will diagnose pipes. They outwardly resemble beetles and are no more than 1 cm in size and are able to move on any surface, including water. Repair robots are larger, equipment for repairing various pipe damages is attached to them. They are controlled directly through the cable through which they are charged and receive materials for repairs.

It is planned to complete the development of repair robots in 5 years. If the result is positive, the UK will buy them in millions of batches and begin mass repairs of underground utilities.
