Berry lakonos

Lakonos got its name because of the juice of the fruits of dark red color - translated from Latin lacca means red juice. Berry, or edible, it is called due to the fact that in the countries of Southeast Asia, some parts of this plant (young shoots, leaves and berries) are eaten and even bred as a vegetable.

Also, like the related American lakonos, this species is a perennial herb with powerful, thick, erect stems, but slightly smaller in size - up to 0,5-1,5 meters in height. Rhizomes are powerful, deeply penetrating into the soil, their color repeats the color of flowers (white-colored forms always with white roots, and pink-colored ones with purple roots).

The leaves are elliptical or lanceolate-elliptic, on the petiole 1-7 cm, sometimes sessile, up to 19x35 cm in size, the bases are wedge-shaped, with pointed tips.

Inflorescences are dense racemes 5-30 cm in size on a stem 1-5 cm, erect (in contrast to the drooping racemes of the American lakos), at least during flowering and at the stage of fruit ripening. After ripening, the brushes may droop under the weight of the fruit. Flowers are bisexual, with 5 sepals, white or greenish-white, elliptical or oblong, 3-4 mm in size, stamens and carpels 7-10.

The ripe berries are purple-black, flattened and divided into 7-10 segments (lobules) - in contrast to the rounded and more or less smooth berries of the American lakos. Outwardly, the fruits of the berry laconus are similar to blackberries or mulberries. The seeds are black, smooth or slightly wrinkled, 4 mm in size, the pulp of the pericarp adheres tightly to the seed.

Berry lakonos

Asian species, distributed in the Far East in Korea, Japan, China, in the tropical regions of Asia - Vietnam, India.

Cultivated in botanical gardens and home gardens, where it sometimes runs wild. As a wild animal, it is occasionally found in the Moscow and Voronezh regions, in Mordovia (Saransk). Often erroneously listed under the name Phytolacca americana, which has drooping inflorescences and round berry-shaped fruits.

Lakonos berry contains many biologically active substances in its tissues, but their concentration is slightly lower. This is the only conditionally edible species of lakonos from their entire family. The roots contain phytolaccine alkaloid, steroids, triterpene saponins, bitter substances, sucrose, starch, oxidase enzyme, acids (phytolacca and formic); a little essential oil with a pungent odor and pungent taste.

The leaves and berries of plants growing in the Himalayas, China and Japan are eaten there. In the tropical regions of America and Southeast Asia, the plant is cultivated as a vegetable. The young shoots are eaten boiled there, and the fragrant, palatable leaves can be used like spinach.

Fresh greens are nutritious, boiled berries are used as a seasoning for food, raw berries are poisonous.

Lakonos berry is actively used as food in Southeast Asia, in Chinese medicine it is used as a medicinal plant, due to the high content of saponin in the rhizomes (which does not prevent young shoots and leaves from being eaten in the homeland). It is also a highly ornamental plant and is bred in gardens and parks around the world in countries with a tropical climate.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

New type of magnet discovered 31.08.2019

Chemical engineering specialists from New York University, USA, demonstrated their new, unusual design of a unique type of magnet, discovered not so long ago during a parallel study of the properties of certain types of uranium and antimony. Specialists have identified a new type of magnet as a "sweatshirt magnet", naming it so because this type of magnet has the unique ability to change its magnetic properties, switching from a magnetized state to a demagnetized state. It is worth noting that the discovery of this new type of magnet is of paramount importance for improving the quality and reliability of modern hard drives.

In principle, the same applies to any other recording equipment. The very discovery of a new magnet was associated with the study of some configurations of antimony and uranium - then scientists were able to identify the prototype Usb2 magnet, in which electrons were formed not in the standard way, as is usually the case in magnets, but through a kind of layering and transposition. This allows the new Usb2 magnet to simultaneously demonstrate the properties of a charged and discharged magnet, depending on what the user specifically needs.

Connecting with each other, the electrons in the presented magnet form something like a disparate magnetic field, in which switching is controlled using standard flip-flops - in this respect, control is carried out in traditional and easy ways.

This type of magnet-sweatshirt will certainly be an excellent tool for a significant technical improvement in current technologies and methods for creating hard drives and other storage equipment - in particular, making this equipment more reliable, resistant to various types of deformation and more durable, which is very, very important.
