pubescent centrozem, Centrosema pubescens. Description, illustrations of the plant pubescent centrozem, Centrosema pubescens. Methods of application, origin of the plant, range, botanical description, cultivation The pubescent centrozem (Centrosema pubescens Benth) is a valuable pasture, soil protection and green manure crop. It has high nutritional value. In a year, for 1-3 cuttings, it gives 5-12 tons of dry matter per 1 ha. The dry mass contains up to 24% protein, 3,6% calcium, 0,8% phosphorus in the wet season and up to 16% protein, 1,4% calcium and 0,5% phosphorus in the dry season. The green mass at a moisture content of 71,5% contains 4,7% protein, 0,7% fat, 8,1% fiber, 70% BEV and 2,0% ash. The grass is well eaten in its pure form and mixed with cereals, but can cause tympanitis. It surpasses Brazilian alfalfa in terms of seed yield, yields 0,3-0,6 t/ha or more per year. In the USA, it is used for harvesting herbal flour. Comes from South America. Grow up in many tropical countries of America, Africa, in Australia. Centrozema pubescent - creeping, very bushy plant, 40-60 cm high. The leaves are trifoliate. The flowers are large, of various colors (from white to purple). The beans are long, with thickened edges, cracking. The weight of 1000 seeds is 23-29 g. A significant part of the ripened seeds have a hard shell. It is exacting to heat, it is very steady against a drought. Grown in dry and humid tropics without irrigation. It gives the highest yields in areas with an annual rainfall of 800-1500 mm. In the 1st year of life, it is quite demanding on light, and later it tolerates shading. It works well in grass mixtures when growing trees and shrubs between rows. It grows on many types of soil, including poor ones. Forms high yields on fertile soils. It is considered a good predecessor in crop rotations. In the 2nd year of vegetation, it leaves in the soil from 75 to 280 kg of nitrogen per 1 ha. Before sowing, the seeds should be kept for 15 minutes in technical sulfuric acid, which significantly increases their germination. Centrozema is grown in its pure form and mixed with cereal grasses (Guinea grass, paragras, Buffalo grass, red hyparrenia, treacle grass, lying rosichka, star grass) to create pastures and for green fodder. Sowing is carried out in wide rows with row spacing of 90-120 cm. Seeding rate is 3-5 kg of seeds per 1 ha. When caring for crops, weed control is carried out, row spacing is loosened until the rows close, and fertilizers are applied. When harvesting for seeds, losses from cracking beans should not be allowed. Authors: Baranov V.D., Ustimenko G.V.
