Furkrey Furkrey

Basic scientific information, legends, myths, symbolism

Sort by: Furcraea (Furcraea)

Family: Agave (Agavaceae)

Origin: Furcrea originates from the region of Central and South America, where it was grown and used by many indigenous peoples as a source of food and fiber.

Area: Furkrea is cultivated in various parts of the world, including Central and South America, Africa, Australia and Oceania.

Chemical composition: Furcrea contains many beneficial substances, including saponins, which may help fight certain diseases, and inulin, which is beneficial for intestinal health. In addition, it contains vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Economic value: Furcrea is used as a source of fiber for the production of paper, ropes, mats, fabrics and other products. In addition, the furkreya can be used as livestock feed, and the nectar from the furkreya flowers is used to produce honey. Furcrea is popular as an ornamental plant due to its large size and beautiful leaves.

Legends and myths: In Mexican mythology, the plant is known as the "magic bush" and its sap was used to create potions and medicines. It is also said that the furkreya is a symbol of the goddess of love and beauty. In Colombia, the plant is called "pitaya", which means "snake flower". Legend has it that the pitahaya was a gift from the snake queen as a token of gratitude for protecting it from hunters. In modern culture, pitaya is associated with exotic fruits and a healthy lifestyle. It is used as a decorative element in interior design and in the cosmetics industry. Some people believe that dragon fruit has healing properties and can improve the health of the digestive system and the immune system. In Mexican culture, the furcrea plays an important role in music and dance, as its leaves are used to create musical instruments and dance costumes.

Furkrey

The length of the fiber is up to 1,5-2,5 m, it is white, soft, flexible and elastic. Used for the production of bags, coarse fabrics, ropes, nets, etc. Sometimes used in a mixture with sisal fiber.

Furcraea (Furcraea gigantea), the Amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae) is cultivated in small quantities on the islands of Mauritius and Saint Helena, in South Africa, India, Venezuela and Brazil.

Furkrey has a shortened stem bearing a rosette of leaves.

The leaves are long (120-200 cm), straight, lighter than sisal leaves, ending in a sharp spine.

This plant is close to agaves in its characteristics.

Furkrey

Furcrea plants rarely form viable seeds. Reproduction occurs when using bulbs that form in the axils of the bracts.

The cultivation technology is the same as agave.

The technology for primary processing of leaves is the same as for agaves. Mauritian hemp fiber is valued lower than sisal.

Furcraea, Furcraea gigantea. Tips for growing, harvesting and storing

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

Furcraea (Furcraea gigantea) is a large plant that can be used as an ornamental as well as for fiber production.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing furkrey:

Cultivation:

  • Fourcrea prefers bright light and can grow in a variety of soil types, but prefers soil with good drainage capacity.
  • The soil should be fertile and have a pH level between 6,0 and 7,5.
  • Furcrea seeds should be planted at a depth of 1-2 cm and the distance between them should be at least 50 cm so that the plants have enough room to grow.
  • Water the plants regularly to keep the soil moist.
  • Feed your plants regularly with large plant fertilizers.
  • Remove weeds and other plants competing for nutrients.
  • Prune your plants regularly to keep their shape and encourage growth.
  • Protect plants from frost.

Workpiece:

  • Furcrea leaves can be used to produce fiber.
  • If you want to harvest leaves, choose old, yellow leaves that are starting to die back.
  • Cut the leaves 5 cm from the stem and remove the edges of the leaf where the leaf was attached to the stem.
  • If necessary, remove needles from the edges of the sheet.

Storage:

  • Furcrea leaves can be stored in a cool, dry place for several weeks.
  • The fiber produced from the leaves of the furcrea can be stored for several months in a cool and dry place.

Latest news of science and technology, new electronics:

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Zeolite in aluminum 07.10.2015

The conclusion of the particles of the catalyst or sorbent in a metal shell facilitates the flow of the chemical process.

Powders are used in many chemical processes. These can be catalysts, and sorbents, and much more. When they are used, for example, in reactors with a fixed catalyst bed, a problem arises: even a small gap between particles sharply reduces thermal conductivity, which requires the creation of complex heat exchangers.

Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technology and Systems, led by Jörg Adler, decided to increase the thermal conductivity and enclosed the particles (in this case, the porous substance of the zeolite) in an aluminum shell: they poured them into a long tube, compressed, and then cut the resulting workpiece into pieces a few millimeters long. The shell thickness was 250 microns.

Laboratory experiments have shown that with such a device, the heat transfer rate increased five times! Another advantage is that metal-shielded particles are much easier to load into the reactor and wear less due to impact during operation.

Adler's group continues to experiment to find out all the advantages of the new technology and demonstrate them to industrialists. True, they do not specify how such a catalyst or sorbent will work, because if its particles are enclosed in a shell, then, obviously, the surface area involved in the chemical reaction has decreased. Apparently, a compromise will have to be found between thermal conductivity and reactivity.
