Sanseviera

In a number of tropical countries, a coarse, well-spun fiber in a small size is obtained from several types of sansevier.

The sansevier fiber is softer and more flexible than textile banana. Used for the manufacture of ropes, mats and coarse fabrics.

In Guinea, the three-banded sanseviera (Sanseviera trifaciata) is found, which is usually incorrectly called the Guinean sanseviera (Sanseviera guineensis).

Ceylon sanseviera (Sanseviera zeylonica) is common in Sri Lanka.

In other countries, Sanseviera cylindrica and Sanseviera thyrsiflora are cultivated. A number of species are known in horticulture under the name pike tail and are grown as a houseplant, and in countries of the tropics and subtropics they are sometimes planted along hedgerows.

The genus Sansevier includes more than 50 species. All species are represented by herbaceous perennial forms.

Sanseviera, family Liliaceae (Liliaceae) - herbaceous perennial plant.

Sanseviera

The inflorescence is a raceme, develops on a thin peduncle, approximately the same length as the leaves. The ovary is 3-celled, one ovule is formed in each nest.

The thin pericarp is destroyed at the end of seed formation.

Reproduction in culture is vegetative, by dividing the rhizome.

Sanseviers are savannah plants. They have narrow, strong, more or less fleshy leaves, reaching 1,5 m in length, dark green or gray-green in color, sometimes with shiny light transverse stripes.

  • Sanseviera can grow in shade or full sunlight.

Workpiece:

  • The leaves of the sansevier can be used for plant propagation.
  • The sheets should be cut into several pieces and left for several hours to dry the wounds.
  • The leaf pieces can then be planted in the ground or in a pot of damp soil and wait for new plants to emerge.

Storage:

  • Sanseviera does not require special storage conditions, but it is not recommended to expose it to extreme temperatures.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Britain's oldest rope 04.05.2010

Off the coast of the English Isle of Wight, at a depth of about 10 meters, among the remains of a prehistoric settlement discovered by scuba divers, a piece of rope 11,4 cm long was found. The rope was tied to wooden planks and, apparently, served as a brace during construction.

Its age is 8000 years, and it is made of plant fibers, the exact origin of which has not yet been established - perhaps these are nettle or honeysuckle fibers. The settlement was flooded during the rise of the sea level, when the glaciers melted at the end of the last ice age.

The oldest rope in the world was found in the desert on the Sinai Peninsula, where, thanks to the dry climate, it lay without rotting for 19 thousand years. Archaeologists say that the invention of the rope is comparable in importance to the further development of technology with the invention of the wheel.
