Prayer rosary

Prayer rosary is a species of the genus Abrus, a plant of the legume family (Fabaceae).

Climbing tree-like liana with compound paired leaves.

The flowers are small, pale pink, moth-like, collected in racemes.

The fruit is a flattened bean. Inside the bean contains four to six seeds of a characteristic cinnabar-red color with a black spot at the narrow end.

It grows wild in India, cultivated in the tropics of both hemispheres.

The seeds are highly poisonous and contain the protein phytotoxin abrin. If swallowed, they can cause severe gastroenteritis and dehydration. An infusion of seeds on contact can cause eye damage.

The root contains glycyrrhizic acid, which is responsible for its sugary-sweet taste. Its salts are 100 times sweeter than sugar.

Abrus prayer root is sometimes called Indian licorice and is used instead of licorice root.

Previously, a rosary was made from seeds, in connection with which the plant could be called a "bead".

Also known as Abrus, Abrus precatorius is a plant from the legume family that is used in medicine and cooking. However, it should be noted that the plant is poisonous, and its use requires special care.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing a prayer rosary:

Cultivation:

  • Prayer rosary is best grown in a sunny location with well-drained soil.
  • The plant needs high humidity, so you need to water it regularly.
  • Seeds can be sown at any time of the year, with a distance between plants of about 30-40 cm.
  • Prayer rosary can grow both outdoors and in pots.

Workpiece:

  • The best time to collect the prayer rosary is summer or autumn, when the plant is fully grown and the fruits are ripe.
  • The collected fruits must be cleaned of pulp and dried in the sun or in the shade.
  • Before use, the fruits must be crushed or ground.

Storage:

  • Dry fruits of the prayer rosary can be stored in paper bags or glass jars with a tightly closed lid in a cool and dry place.
  • It is best to use harvested plants within a year, as over time they lose their medicinal properties.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Construction of houses from grass blocks 22.08.2023

North Carolina-based construction company DR Horton, one of the largest real estate developers in the US, has begun a revolutionary use of pressed perennial grass in the home building process.

The essence of the innovative idea is to create panels obtained by pressing large volumes of fast-growing plants. These panels have the potential to replace traditional building materials used for walls and ceilings.

The pilot project began life as a series of homes in North Carolina, where DR Horton partner Plantd is implementing this innovative approach. Grass panels are becoming an alternative to conventional oriented strand board (OSB) and plywood.

Plantd undertakes not only the cultivation and harvesting of plant materials, but also the creation of production machines capable of producing up to one panel per minute. The company is currently working on an all-electric plant that will include 50 production lines and will be up and running within the next few years.

According to the company, its panels can replace up to 16-17 trees needed to build one house, which, in turn, requires about 175 panels for walls and roof.

What's more, Plantd actively researches perennial biomass in its lab and claims that its current panels offer improved moisture resistance and durability over comparable products available on the market.

Now, as part of its pilot project in North Carolina, DR Horton is completing a "trial" home. Following the successful installation of this home, the company intends to purchase 250 panels for use in more than a thousand family homes, demonstrating the potential of this unique technology.
