Ivan tea (fireweed). Legends, myths, history

Fireweed narrow-leaved (Ivan tea)

Fireweed has traditionally been used in Rus' as an everyday tea drink that gives vigor and good health. Participants in the capture of Kazan and the conquest of Astrakhan, the warriors of Minin and Pozharsky, the walking freemen of Stepan Razin drank Ivan tea, which was an integral part of their life.

Ivan lived in a village near St. Petersburg, he liked to flaunt in a red shirt. Most of the time, fellow villagers saw him in the forest, on the edges, among flowers and herbs. He loved the forest, studied the healing properties of plants. Seeing a scarlet color flashing among the foliage, they said: “Yes, this is Ivan, tea, walking!”

No one noticed at what moment Ivan disappeared, but on the edges of the outskirts, beautiful scarlet flowers that had never been seen before suddenly appeared. When people saw them, they mistook the flowers for Ivan's shirt and began to say again: "Yes, this is Ivan, tea!" So the name stuck to the unexpectedly appeared flowers.

People got used to them: beautiful flowers, but fragrant. And once the flowers got into a pot of boiling water and the broth turned out to be pleasant and refreshing. And so they began in that village of Koporye, near St. Petersburg, to make a healing drink from the leaves and flowers of willow-tea. Such is the legend about the appearance of Ivan-tea in Rus'.

Drink of the sleeping gods. A long time ago, gods lived on Earth. They were powerful, but, unable to resist, unleashed a war among themselves. Avoiding their mutual extermination, Providence sent down a dream on them. It sent the seed of the fiery flower through the air to cover the ashes of the fires with a green carpet.

The warring inhabitants inhaled the ethers of the fiery grass and marveled at the lush growth of the boiling piraeus. Pacified by the incense of green-pink fire and cooling the fighting ardor with its infusion, the gods retired from the earth, leaving war to people.

Every time a person comes to calmness by turning to this heavenly messenger. Since then, the weed of fires has been a witness and moderator of the unbridled fiery element. As a product of fire, wind, earthly ashes and water, fireweed brings its calm and balanced living flame to man.

By extinguishing their infernal fires, people resurrect the divine in themselves. Where weed in all this is just a help.

Ivan tea is the drink of the sleeping gods, ready to wake up again in their eternal cradle - in man.

In those days, when the reassured gods fell into a sound sleep from the aroma of fireweed, a one-year-old girl - the daughter of the goddess Lada, did not sleep. Thickets of fireweed interested her, and she decided to walk to them. Step by step, she approached unusual flowers, moving away from the camp of the sleeping gods. She went far from her camp, admiring the unusual flowers, each of which seemed more beautiful than the other. The girl felt so good among the flowers that she completely forgot about her parents sleeping in the distance, and she herself soon fell asleep when she was tired of walking.

When the gods woke up and began to gather to leave the Earth, the goddess Lada began to look for her little daughter. But the thickets of fireweed were so dense and high that the gods could not find her. The gods were calling the girl, but she was sleeping and did not hear the call. However, the gods did not change their mind and left the Earth. And the goddess Lada, before leaving the Earth, said:

“You will be the goddess of this magical flower that left you here, my daughter. From now on, let the name for you be Kipreya, and so that you do not die from human unpredictability, I will leave for you, my daughter, my Golden Ball. He will always be by your side. He will raise you and be your best friend.

The goddess Lada said so and left the Earth. And he stayed with the golden girl Kipreya, like a ball woven from sunlight. So the little goddess remained on earth to live.

The girl was left to grow in the Ivan-tea field. She grew up strong, healthy, beautiful and smart. She communicated with all nature and with the golden ball of her mother. And the goddess Lada knew that her daughter was living well. She was calm for the girl's life. But when Kipreya reached the age when the gods usually started a family for themselves, she could not find any of the men for her husbands. After all, people then were very different from the gods - the thoughts of people then were no longer so pure. Then Kipreya asked the ball to return her to the planet of her mother - the planet inhabited by the gods, so that there she could find her betrothed for herself.

Lada's mother said:

- My daughter, it was not in vain that I left you on Earth. But your betrothed is a man, not a god. He's sleeping. Sleeping spiritual sleep, not physical. And he will pass many lives before his awakening. When he wakes up, he will become like a god. But you will meet him only after a few hundred years.

- How can I recognize him, mother? - asked Cypreya.

- I will help you! - answered mother Lada. - I will make sure that all people on earth forget the history of the appearance of Ivan-tea, fireweed on earth. Forgotten for hundreds of years. You dry yourself Ivan-tea flowers and fall asleep for these hundreds of years, in the place where the Golden Ball will show you. When you wake up, you will recognize your betrothed - this will be the person who will be the first to unravel the appearance on earth of a magical flower - fireweed.

- Well, mother, - the goddess Kipreya answered, - I will do so. I just want there to be no wars around the place where I will have to sleep for many years, so that this place is under the protection of a holy and enlightened person. Mom, what if the man-god betrothed to me will fall in love with someone until the moment when I can go out to meet him? What if he manages to marry someone before he meets me? - Cyprus got excited.

- Don't worry. Having awakened spiritually, having become enlightened, he will condescendingly treat many earthly beauties. He doesn't want to marry anyone. After all, his heart will wait more than a man-woman. It will feel and wait for the goddess - you, Kipreya.

And so it happened. Kipreya plunged into a deep sleep, and around the place where she slept, there was always the spiritual protection of saints and enlightened people. But one day other people came to these places. Outwardly, they seemed ordinary people, but inside they were different and differed from the rest by the purity of their thoughts. They came to these places to create a paradise on earth, similar to the paradise once created by God.

And one of the first to come there was the enlightened chosen one of Cyprus. He was one of the most enlightened among these people, his heart was pure, and in his soul he felt the Awakening God. Earthly beautiful women interested him, but little. After all, in his soul he felt that the body can be outwardly beautiful, while inside there may be emptiness. With his soul, he sought and felt a goddess equal to him, and perhaps stronger.

He was waiting for her, and while he was waiting, he often looked in the evenings at the thickets of willow-tea that surrounded around a piece of land on which he wanted to create his own paradise. I looked and looked and suddenly entered into an internal dialogue with this unusual plant. And they understood each other. This man considered a lot of information that this plant shared with him, and, in the end, as if from the depths of his heart, he seemed to remember how fireweed appeared on planet Earth. The miracle predicted by the mother - the goddess Lada came true.

This man turned out to be very kind and generous, and told about the history of the appearance of Ivan tea and other people awakening from a thousand-year sleep. He placed the information where enlightened people often communicated with each other, giving everyone the opportunity to use it... He highlighted it in the largest and most beautiful letters, and placed many beautiful bright pictures. Fireweed taught this man to make tea out of him - the fragrant drink of the gods and the aroma of tea began to spread to the area where the goddess Fireweed slept with her deep sleep. She inhaled his scent and began to wake up. But when she woke up, it turned out that Kipreya had forgotten that she was a goddess.

Although all the abilities of the goddess and the purity of thoughts remained in her as before, she began to consider herself a man. But, among people turning into gods, gods turn into people. But one day, Kipreya saw pictures posted by an enlightened person creating paradise in a place where people posted information. She remembered the story of her appearance on earth. She remembered everything that she had seen before she fell into a dream and really wanted to become happy on earth in the place where Ivan-tea grows. Goddess Lada and other gods promised to return to earth when Kipreya met her betrothed.

From the flowers on Ivan Kupala, they traditionally collect a bathing suit (yellowhead), bear ears, a rich woman and Ivan da Marya. An ancient legend is connected with the latter about the pagan Perun the Thunderer and the goddess Zara bathing in rain streams, which sounds like a loud response in the Belarusian Kupala song.

Leaves alternate lanceolate.

The flowers are lilac, purple, sometimes white with a deep four-separated calyx, with a short tube and an irregular corolla. Inflorescence - final rare long brush. The fruit is a capsule, the seeds are oblong-oval, with a tuft.

Blooms from late June to mid-August.

Range and habitats. Distributed everywhere, grows in forest clearings, clearings, forest edges, wastelands and dried peat bogs.

Chemical composition. The leaves contain up to 10% tannin of the pyrogallic group, alkaloids - about 0,1%, mucus - up to 15%, vitamin C, sugar, pectin.

The roots of the plant lack tannin and contain less mucus.

Application in medicine. Fireweed preparations have low toxicity, have anti-inflammatory and enveloping properties, due to the tannins of the pyrogallic group and the mucus found in the plant.

In addition to the high content of tannin, the plant has mucus, which also has an anti-inflammatory effect. Whole fireweed leaves have a significantly lower anti-inflammatory activity, while crushed leaves have a higher anti-inflammatory activity. This phenomenon is observed in connection with the combined action of tanides and mucus. Fireweed was used as an anti-inflammatory agent for stomach ulcers, gastritis and colitis.

Ivan-tea narrow-leaved (common willow-herb), Chamaenerion agustifolium (L.) Scop. Description, habitats, nutritional value, culinary use

Fireweed narrow-leaved (Ivan tea)

Ivan-tea is a perennial, rhizomatous herbaceous plant from the fireweed family.

The stem is erect, up to 150 cm high. The leaves are alternate, lanceolate, sharp, dark green.

Flowers in long racemes, large, purple-purple.

It grows almost on forest clearings, burned areas, embankments and slopes, along roads and ditches. Excellent honey plant.

One flower contains up to 25 mg of nectar. In the thickets of willow-tea, bees are a real expanse.

The chemical composition of Ivan tea has not yet been studied enough. But the fact that its leaves are rich in tannins, vitamin C and chlorophyll has long been known. 100 g of the green mass of Ivan tea contains 23 mg of iron, 1,3 mg of nickel, 2,3 mg of copper, 16 mg of manganese, 1,3 mg of titanium, 0,44 mg of molybdenum and 6 mg of boron.

This is not so small for one plant. If we take into account that iron, copper, manganese are stimulants of hematopoiesis and in a certain way increase the protective properties of the body, and fresh tea from the leaves of this plant has a beneficial effect on insomnia and headaches, and also normalizes intestinal activity, then the interest that manifests itself becomes quite understandable. to Ivan tea.

From the young shoots and leaves of willow-tea, soups, salads can be prepared, and fresh roots can be used raw and boiled instead of asparagus and cabbage. Dried roots are used to make flour, baked bread, pancakes and cakes, and roasted roots are used to make coffee. It is no coincidence that attempts are being made to introduce this plant into culture.

Fireweed. The value of the plant, the procurement of raw materials, the use in traditional medicine and cooking

Fireweed narrow-leaved (Ivan tea)

The forest broke off quite suddenly, farther stretched boundless distance, sprayed with pink foam. This is a young fire pit, the brainchild of a fiery storm that devoured the horse stand and the undergrowth, spitting out only black coals. And the miserable spectacle would have had to remain for a long time, if not for the fireweed. Immediately, as soon as the scorched earth cooled down, green oblong leaves broke through the ashes, pushing the coals apart. Day by day the burn healed, and now the ashes swayed with tall grass, over which the lilac-pink sultans of the new settler soared. Other fire victims need years to renew, but even one summer was enough for fireweed to be reborn, and even fill the entire space of this destitute land.

And the secret here is quite small. After all, fireweed, in other words, Ivan-tea, is a powerful root-spring plant, its horizontal roots, securely hidden under a layer of soil, are abundantly strewn with buds. From each bud, an ankle-length stem with sessile alternate leaves, excised by a mesh of veins, is pulled out. In addition to vegetative reproduction, Ivan-tea is also spread by seeds. When the peaks of the inflorescences are still blazing with might and main, the wind is already blowing white fluffs around: in place of a row of flowers, fruit-boxes appeared, like thin pods, and tiny seeds, equipped with long white hairs, spilled out of them.

Each faded stalk can shake off up to forty thousand of these seeds, and a whole hectare of land occupied by fireweed produces up to four billion seeds in a summer with excellent germination and excellent germination vigor. What a help it is to the roots, throwing arrows of shoots! It turns out that the fire is not able to cope with Ivan-tea, they steadfastly endure, they have all the hardships of the forest number, which can quickly tighten its black abrasions ..

In summer, with its multi-storey foliage, the fireweed will cover from the withering thick heat of all those who have gathered at its foot - seedlings of tree species, tender grasses. And in autumn, when a sudden frost severely beats the green shoots, fireweed helps young plants: it upsets cold winds and even warms the wards a little.

It is noticed that the air is warmer in the fireweed thickets. It can be seen that this plant can radiate heat, creating its own microclimate. In any case, surrounded by Ivan-tea, the life of small forest settlers does not stop longer.

Fireweed is a good honey plant. Just the champion of bee pastures. If you look at its flowers on a fine day, then at the base of the petals it is easy to detect droplets of a light liquid. This is nectar, it is not without reason that bees pilgrimage through fireweed bushes. Up to twelve kilograms of honey per day grows in each hive, If the beekeeper takes care of the fireweed land in time. It is estimated that from a hectare of such land, bees can store up to a thousand kilograms of honey. Yes, and Ivan-tea treats winged workers with more than one nectar! From its flowers, the bees remove their bread - perga, and from the shells of this pollen they can prepare a very valuable glue.

Fireweed narrow-leaved (Ivan tea)

Fireweed blooms from July to September, when the bee family is at its strongest, which is why it provides the main bribe. And another great quality of this honey plant: reliability. As soon as a fresh north wind blows, even in the lime and clover forests the nectar dries up to the point that the bees do not fly there, but at the same time the fireweed continues to pay tribute to them in full. Interestingly, Ivan-tea generously bears honey only on light soils, and on clay and in the swamp it is scarce. Pumped out fireweed honey is completely transparent, the glass poured by it seems empty. When it gets old, it will become grainy and whitish. Connoisseurs assure that fireweed honey is the sweetest.

Fireweed has long been known as "Koporsky tea" because of the village of Koporye, near St. Petersburg, from where hundreds of pounds of tea surrogate were exported for many years. They made it like this: young fireweed leaves were dried, scalded in a tub with boiling water, ground in a trough, then thrown back onto baking sheets and dried in the free spirit of a Russian oven. After drying, the leaves were crushed again, and the tea is ready. In appearance, it was very similar to the real one, although it did not have a characteristic smell, and upon careful examination, crystals of the smallest druze are easily noticeable in it. When brewed, the color is indistinguishable from natural varieties.

Nicknames such as "wild hemp" and "wild flax" fireweed received because of the bast properties of its stems give up to 15 percent of the fiber yield. Once upon a time, ropes were twisted from this fiber and yarn was twisted, suitable for dressing coarse matter. "Borowoe Potion" - this name was given by healers, they treated headaches with infusions of fireweed leaves and even tried to relieve inflammation in ulcers. The rhizomes of the fireweed were not left without attention; in case of crop failure, they were used as food. They were dried, ground and the resulting flour was mixed into bread, which made it sweetish. They also baked fireweed cakes from flour. So there were folk nicknames for this plant "bread box" and "miller".

Well, the "down jacket" - from down, pillows and mattresses were stuffed with fireweed down. They also called fireweed: the virgin grass, magpie eyes, elushnik, willow-grass (leaves are almost like willows), hoof-grass, jumping and cockerel apples (young leaves taste no worse than lettuce) In scientific use, the popular name of fireweed has long been fixed - " blooming Sally".

Fireweed is found not only in burnt areas, it is also common on the edges, and in steppe birch pegs, and in tall grass meadows, and along embankments of roads. And in the mountains, he climbs up to a height of 2300 meters, coming close to subalpine plants.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Copper foam battery 05.11.2013

A team of researchers at Colorado State University is close to creating a battery prototype that is more environmentally friendly and cheaper than conventional batteries. In addition, the new battery will charge faster and last longer.

According to scientists, modern batteries have a number of problems: high cost, limited life, and toxic or corrosive materials used in production. But according to Colorado State University chemist Amy Prieto, there are two main issues that need to be addressed immediately: low energy density and low power density.

The low energy density means that conventional smartphone batteries cannot hold enough energy to last longer than 1-2 days. And the low power density means the battery takes hours to charge rather than minutes.

A group of scientists led by Prieto is trying to solve these problems by looking for new battery components. Eventually, the researchers used copper foam as a current collector on the anode side of the battery. According to the scientists, the foam is a suitable structure. It is voluminous, increases the surface area of the electrodes and draws them closer together, which in turn improves the battery's power density. In addition, complex three-dimensional structures of the foam work as an electrode more efficiently.

On top of the copper foam, a copper antimonide anode is made by electroplating. In the future, the anode serves as an electrode for an electrochemical polymerization reaction that accumulates a solid electrolyte. Finally, the space inside the foam is filled with a slurry which is dried to form the cathode. The aluminum mesh structure collects current on the cathode side.

It's important to note that the Colorado State University team uses cheaper electroplating equipment than conventional batteries. Prieto says that the cost of manufacturing copper foam batteries will be about half that of conventional lithium-ion batteries. The group also expects copper foam batteries to be a third smaller than lithium-ion batteries for the same capacity. Charging will take place 5 to 10 times faster, and the operating time will increase by about 10 times compared to conventional batteries.

The new battery will also be environmentally friendly and safe. Solid electrolyte reduces the risk of fire. In addition, the team used non-toxic substances to produce batteries.

After successfully creating a 2D battery on a copper plate, the researchers set about integrating all the components into a XNUMXD battery prototype. Electric bikes and portable electronics will be used for the first test.
