Cold It has the opposite effect of heat: it constricts blood vessels, reduces blood supply to the corresponding area, lowers the threshold of excitability of nerve endings, helps to limit the spread of the inflammatory process and stop bleeding.

Very widely, especially in surgical practice, local cold is used. To do this, use a rubber bladder with a screw cap that closes the wide throat. Having unscrewed the lid of the bubble, fill it up to half with small pieces of ice, snow or cold water, release the air, squeezing the bubble, and screw the cork tightly. An ice pack is placed on the patient's body through linen or it is pre-wrapped with a towel. In the absence of a bubble, it is easy to replace it with a plastic bag in which you can put ice and snow or pour cold water, tightly tying it. In extreme cases, you can wrap the ice and snow in oilcloth.

Sometimes a cold compress is used instead of an ice pack. To do this, a cotton cloth (napkin) folded in several layers is moistened in ice water, squeezed out and applied to the patient's body. Since the compress warms up after 1-2 minutes, take 2 napkins: while one is on the diseased area, the other is cooled. Napkins are changed every 1-3 minutes. This is done for an hour or more. Cold compresses are used on the first day after bruises, in acute local inflammatory processes to reduce the blood supply to an organ or part of the body, nosebleeds (on the bridge of the nose), palpitations (on the heart area), fever (on the head).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Transparent OLED display from Samsung 17.06.2015

Samsung Display has unveiled two new OLED displays with unusual features at the Retail Asia Expo 2015 in Hong Kong - one is transparent, the other is mirrored. Both displays are the first of their kind to feature OLED technology.

Both displays are intended primarily for the commercial market. The mirror display can be useful in fitting rooms at clothing stores, Samsung said.

Compared to current mirror LCDs, Samsung's new OLED panel features 50% higher reflectance, wider color gamut (NTSC 100% vs. 70%), higher contrast ratio (over 100000:1 vs. 4000:1) and faster response time (1ms versus 8ms).

All these properties allow you to display a clearer and more saturated image. In addition, the OLED display does not require external light to be clearly visible, unlike similar LCD panels.

The transparent display, in turn, can be used in car dealerships, information stands in hypermarkets, healthcare facilities, hotels and public transport, according to the company.

Compared to existing LCD-based counterparts, Samsung's transparent OLED display has 4,5 times higher transparency (45% vs. 10%). It also covers the entire NTSC color range (vs. approximately 70% for transparent LCDs), offers higher image clarity and wider viewing angles. The resolution of the mirrored OLED display is 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Samsung plans to ship new displays with an integrated Intel RealSense system. Representing an analogue of Microsoft KInect, it allows you to control the multimedia system using spatial gestures.
