If a fallen baby or toddler who has just started to walk cries when touched and is unable to use the injured arm or leg, the baby may have a broken bone.

What to do in this case?

1. Call emergency medical help.

2. Do not move the child if the injured limb is not fixed.

3. If you are familiar with first aid techniques, splint the limb in the position you found it in.

4. Do not attempt to straighten or check a deformed bone or joint.

5. Don't let your child eat or drink.

6. If the injury is associated with an open wound, do not blow on it, wash it, or touch it. Cover the wound with a sterile dressing.

7. Take steps to prevent shock. Without moving the injured limb and without causing pain, raise the child's legs to a height of 30-40 cm, cover him with a blanket.

ATTENTION!

Do not attempt to move a child if you suspect that they have a neck injury.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Bioreactor for soldiers 19.03.2007

American engineers killed two birds with one stone: they learned to hide the traces of an army unit and provided it with a source of electricity.

The supply of fuel, and even more so electricity, without which, for example, an American soldier equipped with electronics cannot take a step, has long been a stumbling block for the modern army. But the source of fuel is located very close to the consumer - these are leftovers, disposable tableware, rags and other garbage, which is formed in considerable quantities at the place where the military contingent is located. Moreover, garbage still needs to be destroyed in order to deprive enemy intelligence of valuable data.

The garbage disposal plant was created by engineers from Purdue University (USA), headed by Professor Michael Ladish, and in case of successful tests, it will become part of the armaments of the American army.

Garbage is first divided into edible and inedible parts. The first is sent to the bioreactor, and the yeast makes alcohol out of it. The second is gasified at a low oxygen content, turning into combustible gases - methane and propane. Then these gases and alcohol are burned, and the generator generates electricity. After that, a pile of ash remains from the mountain of garbage.

"I think this installation will find application not only in the army," says Professor Ladish. "Restaurants, factories, and other enterprises that produce a lot of organic waste may well use it as an additional source of electricity."
