When you need urgent help with a cold

If a runny nose is accompanied by a headache.

If the child has difficulty breathing or has wheezing.

If a baby under 3 months has a temperature above normal.

If a baby from 3 to 6 months has a temperature below normal.

If the child has a temperature of 40 ° C or higher.

What to do with a cold

Teach young children how to properly blow their nose (press one nostril and blow the mucus out through the other). Usually children do not know how to do this until the age of 4. Be aware that blowing your nose very hard and blowing your nose through both nostrils at the same time can cause mucus to enter the middle ear through the Eustachian tube (the duct that connects the mouth and middle ear) and thus cause an infection.

Place an extra pillow under the child's head - the high position of the head on the pillow facilitates nasal breathing.

Let your child drink plenty of fluids.

Ventilate the room more often, do wet cleaning, and if the weather is warm and the child has no temperature, walk with him in the fresh air. Dusty air irritates the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract, reduces their resistance to infection.

The mucous membrane in the child's nose should not dry out. To moisten the mucosa and thin the viscous mucus, it is necessary to inject normal saline (0,9% sodium chloride solution) into the nasal passages. It is impossible to overdose this solution, since it is an integral part of the body, so you can drip it, if necessary, every 30-60 minutes, 3-4 drops in each half of the nose.

If the disease has developed acutely, rinse the nose with a saline solution that you can prepare yourself: take 1 g of table salt (9 teaspoon) for 1 liter of warm boiled water and mix thoroughly.

A good effect is the use of an ectericide preparation. It is an oily liquid with weak disinfectant properties, which envelops the nasal mucosa and protects it from drying out.

Fat-soluble vitamins E or A (tocopherol and retinol) can be instilled into the nose if the child is not allergic to these drugs. Bury ekteritsid or solutions 4-6 times a day, alternating with drops of saline.

Help with nasal congestion

Within 3-5 days, instill vasoconstrictors into the nose: aqua-maris, nazivin, naphthyzinum, nazol, etc.

ATTENTION!

Long-term use of vasoconstrictors can lead to dryness of the nasal mucosa, the reverse reaction of the vessels - increased edema.

Symptoms of sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses)

A runny nose usually lasts more than two weeks and is accompanied by nasal discharge, cough, and high fever.

Often there is swelling around the nose and cheekbones.

Folk remedies for a cold

Dissolve 1 teaspoon of honey in 2 tbsp. spoons of warm boiled water. Wrap a piece of cotton wool around a match, soak it with this composition and place it in your nose for 20 minutes. If the baby is restless, worried, then first work out one nostril for him, and then the second.

Children from 3 years old can knead one clove of garlic, pour 2 tbsp. spoons of warm boiled water. Leave for 40 minutes in a tightly closed jar, then strain and instill quickly into the nose, into one and the other nostril.

With convulsive phenomena and general anxiety for babies, fill the pillow with hop cones. This pillow also helps adults with excitability, sleep disturbance.

If the child cries and is restless in a dream, put a valerian root wrapped in gauze under his pillow.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Language Model Dolly 2.0 21.04.2023

US enterprise software company Databricks has released Dolly 2.0, the next version of its Large Language Model (LLM), with ChatGPT-like features. It is the first open source LLM with a free learning instruction set that will help companies use AI technology for their own commercial projects - without having to pay for APIs or share data with third parties.

In recent months, many language models have been released, similar to OpenAI's GPT, which by many definitions could be considered open. One of these is LLaMA by Meta, which in turn was inspired by Alpaca, Koala, Vicuna and Dolly 1.0

However, many of these "open" models were under the control of system developers - for example, the Stanford team's AI project Alpaca, which was trained on GPT-3.5 instructions and built on top of LLaMA 7B. OpenAI's terms of use include a rule that researchers cannot use products from systems that compete with the company.

The purpose of Databricks is to solve this problem. Dolly 2.0 is a large 12 billion parameter language model based on the open source Eleuther family of AI models and tuned exclusively to a small instruction block (databricks-dolly-15k) created by Databricks staff. The license terms for this dataset allow it to be used, modified, and extended for any purpose, including academic or commercial programs.

Like the original Dolly, version 2.0 is not state-of-the-art, but "demonstrates a surprisingly efficient level of instruction execution given the size of the training block. The level of effort and cost required to create powerful AI technologies is much less than previously thought.
