Usually under diathesis understand exudative diathesis, that is, a special sensitivity of the body to certain foods and drugs, which is manifested by allergic reactions on the skin and mucous membranes. The basis of the disease is the imperfection of liver function in young children (up to 3-4 years), therefore, after 3 years, diathesis usually disappears. But sometimes it appears at an older age, then they talk about impaired liver function.

The disease is accompanied by inflammatory processes, disorders of water-salt metabolism and enlarged lymph nodes. Most often, diathesis is caused by: strawberries, strawberries, citrus fruits, chocolate, fish, cottage cheese, sausage, tomatoes, sauerkraut.

Children with exudative-catarrhal diathesis are usually plump in appearance, overweight, often have persistent diaper rash from the first month of life. Their skin is often dry and pale.

Symptoms of diathesis

Redness of the skin of the cheeks and chin, followed by peeling.

Small rashes that accompanies itching.

"Geographical language" - a language covered with a peculiar coating, which in its appearance resembles a geographical map.

Sometimes there are stool disorders.

Anemia and rickets can be signs of advanced diathesis.

When to see a doctor

If, after eating sweets or another new product, you notice an unnatural blush on the baby's cheeks, which lasts for several hours, and the skin underneath becomes rough and dry.

If frequent and persistent diaper rash appear on the baby's skin.

If, after washing the baby, you find red and rough skin on the baby's buttocks.

If a red rash appears on the child’s skin and itching worries him.

If you develop rashes or redness after taking antibiotics or other medications, stop using them and contact your doctor immediately.

What to do before the doctor arrives

1. Exclude from the child's menu foods that are allergens (chocolate, oranges, fish, eggs, sweets), sharply limit the intake of carbohydrates that are easily digestible (pasta, sugar, white bread, pies). If a child up to a year is on artificial feeding, then give him mainly sour-milk mixtures.

2. Avoid exposure to the most common allergens: penicillin, aspirin, vitamin B1.

3. In the treatment of allergic skin lesions, vitamins B5, B6, A, E (in age-specific therapeutic doses), antihistamines are used.

4. Children with skin rashes are prescribed baths with decoctions of bay leaves, infusions of oak bark.

Folk remedies for diathesis

St. John's wort flowers grind into powder. Measure out 100 g of powder and pour 1 liter of sunflower, linseed or olive oil. Insist 12 days in a warm place. Strain. Lubricate the affected areas of the baby with this mixture 8-10 hours before bathing and immediately after it. This tool is indispensable for prickly heat, urticaria and all kinds of skin irritations.

Thoroughly (with laundry soap) wash chicken eggs (preferably brown), boil them. Remove the shell, put it in a 3-liter jar, pour boiling water over it, insist for a day. Wash babies with this water.
