Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Smartphone instead of driver's license 15.12.2014

In 2015, Iowa plans to be the first in the US to replace a plastic driver's license with a mobile app on a smartphone, said Paul Trombino, director of the Iowa Department of Transportation. According to The Des Moines Register, he did this during a discussion of the department's budget. The event was attended by Governor Terry Branstad.

Initially, it is planned to spend about $20 to develop the application. Drivers will be able to download it for free.

“Imagine if your license would just be on your phone,” said Paul Trombino. “At the pace we are moving now, we will be the first in the country to issue such a license. Drivers will still be able to use the traditional plastic card, carrying it in their wallet or bag, however, it will no longer be as necessary as it is now.Drivers will be able to present an electronic ID to police officers instead of a plastic one and, in addition, use it at checkpoints at airports in the state. The application will be highly secure. To access it, the user will need to enter a digital code, Trombino added. This will make the app much more secure than regular permissions."

The head of the transport department expects other departments to learn from their experience and eventually issue their own similar digital certificates.

Currently, more than 30 US states allow car drivers to show police electronic insurance on a smartphone instead of a paper version. Iowa is one of those states.

We add that in 2012 the United States became the first state in which self-driving cars were allowed on public roads. The state of Nevada was the first to introduce relevant amendments to the legislation. Florida and California followed suit.
