Reflux-esophagitis - this is a spontaneous and regular entry of gastric or intestinal contents into the esophagus, which causes inflammation of the mucous membrane of the lower third of the esophagus.

This causes heartburn, pain and disruption of the digestion process. There is acid and alkaline reflux. In the first case, pH<4,0, and in the second, pH>7,0. The cause of the disease in newborns is insufficiency of the cardiac esophagus, which is associated with the immaturity of the neuromuscular apparatus. In older children, cardia insufficiency occurs against the background of gastritis, gastroduodenitis and peptic ulcer. The cause of the disease is a constant increase in intragastric pressure, as well as spasms and intestinal hypertonicity. Obesity often leads to the development of reflux esophagitis.

Another cause of the disease is a hernia of the esophageal opening of the diaphragm.

Signs of the disease

1. The appearance of belching in a child, including air, frequent regurgitation, in infancy - vomiting of milk.

2. If you notice a wet spot on the baby's pillow in the morning, it means that regurgitation occurred at night.

3. Sometimes babies complain of sudden cramping pain in the stomach. This happens during a spasm.

4. At an older age, heartburn, sour belching, a burning sensation behind the sternum appear in children. These symptoms often occur after eating, forward bending, or at night.

5. In older children, retrosternal pain appears, which sometimes radiates to the back between the shoulder blades, neck, lower jaw, and the left half of the chest.

First aid at home

After each feeding, the baby must be held vertically for 1-3 minutes - regurgitation will stop.

If you are already introducing complementary foods, then make it a little thicker consistency.

For older children, eliminate citrus fruits, chocolate, tomatoes and fatty foods from the diet - foods that contribute to the development of the disease.

The child should not lie down immediately after eating.

During sleep, place a small cushion under the child's back so that the head and upper body are in a slightly elevated state.
