Safe Operation

1. General requirements for labor protection

1.1. To operate a floor-operated gantry crane, workers who have passed a medical examination, have been trained and have received safety instructions, at least 18 years old, who have certificates for the right to operate this lifting mechanism and an electrical safety group of at least II, are allowed.

1.2. The gantry crane must have a tag with designations: numbers, load capacity, terms of technical examination.

1.3. Removable lifting devices (slings) must have a tag indicating: date of manufacture, number and load capacity.

1.4. The metal parts of the lifting machine must be grounded.

1.5. Lifting machines must have sound and light alarms.

1.6. The KKT-5 gantry crane must be equipped with automatic devices (limit switches, load limiters) that ensure safe operation.

1.7. The load hook of the KKT-5 crane must be provided with a safety device (lock)

1.8. For the work of the crane operator, free passage must be provided for the person operating the machine.

1.9. The owner of the lifting machine must develop methods for slinging and strapping parts and assemblies of machines moved by a crane, with a graphical representation of the slinging methods

1.11. The faucet owner must;

provide slingers with marked load-handling devices and containers corresponding to the mass and nature of the goods being moved.
hang out at the place of work a list of the main goods moved by the crane with an indication of their mass.
determine sites and places for storing goods, equip them with the necessary technological equipment and devices
provide adequate lighting for the work area.

2. Labor protection requirements before starting work

2.1. Arrange work clothes and PPE.

2.2. Perform an external inspection of the crane mechanisms (with the power turned off).

2.3. Check the serviceability of grounding and the presence of fencing of live parts.

2.4. Check the serviceability of the cargo rope.

2.5. Check the serviceability of the hook, clip and the suitability of removable load-handling devices.

2.6. Check the presence and serviceability of safety devices

2.7. Check the operation of the crane lighting.

2.8. Inspect the hook and its fastening in the clip.

2.9. The crane operator is obliged, together with the slinger, to check the serviceability of removable load-handling devices and the presence of stamps or tags on them indicating the load capacity, test date, and number.

2.10. The crane operator should not start work in the presence of the following faults;

cracks or deformations in the main elements of the crane;
cracks in the boom elements;
when the cargo rope is worn;
damage to brake parts;
hook wear;
malfunctions of safety devices.

2.11. Before starting work, the crane operator must check that the slingers have a certificate.

3. Labor protection requirements during work

3.1. Ensure that there are no people at the work site who are not related to the work being performed.

3.2. Before lifting a load, make sure that the weight of the load does not exceed the capacity of the crane and lifting devices.

3.3. when lifting a load of maximum weight, first raise it by at least 200-300 mm to make sure that the brakes are working properly, and then lift it to the required height.

3.4. Loads moving in a horizontal direction should be lifted 0,5 m above the objects encountered on the way.

3.5. Stowage and disassembly of cargo should be carried out evenly, without violating the dimensions of the cargo established for storage and without blocking the aisles.

3.6. It is forbidden to pull the load to the side during lifting, lowering and moving.

3.7. The place of work should be well lit.

3.8. During operation, check that the brakes are in good working order.

3.9. It is forbidden to use limit switches as working bodies for automatic stop of mechanisms.

3.10. In the area of operation of the KKT-5 gantry crane, a security zone with a radius of at least 7 m should be established.

3.11. It is forbidden to lift the load in an unstable position in containers filled above the sides, move the load in places where the fall of the load can cause an explosion, fire or other dangerous consequences.

3.12. When the gantry crane is in operation, it is not allowed:

presence of strangers people in the crane operation area;
moving a load that is in an unstable position;
moving cargo over people and operating equipment;
lifting of cargo, pledged by other cargoes;
pulling cargo on the ground or rails;
pulling the load during its lifting, moving and lowering;
adjustment of slings for the weight of the load;
work with safety devices disabled.

3.14. The withdrawal of the crane for repair should be carried out by the engineer responsible for maintaining the lifting machines in good condition, in accordance with the repair schedule.

3.15. The permit for the operation of the crane after repair is issued by the person responsible for the good condition with an entry in the logbook.

4. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

4.1. In the event of an accident or an accident, the worker operating the crane must:

turn off and stop the crane immediately;
provide first aid to the victim;
himself or through workers to call an ambulance;
report the incident to the responsible person.

4.2. If the elements of the crane are energized, the crane operator must warn the workers about the danger and stop work, informing the immediate supervisor of the work and act on his instructions.

4.3. If, during work, the slinger touched the live parts of electrical equipment, the crane operator must take measures to free him from the action of the current, observing personal precautions.

5. Labor protection requirements at the end of work

5.1. Release the hook of the hoist from the load, raise it to the upper position, turn off the voltage.

5.2. Inspect the crane, report any malfunctions to the mechanic or work manager.

5.3. Remove and put away overalls in the closet, wash hands and face with soap and water, take a shower.

Physicists from the University of Texas at Austin have taken another step towards the invisibility cloak - they were able to hide an 18-centimeter cylinder from observation, and it was impossible to see it at any viewing angle.

Since the coating also has a cylindrical shape, journalists have already called the device "invisible tube". True, while this tube operates only in the microwave range, in ordinary light the "invisibility" created by it disappears.

Perhaps the most important thing in this achievement is a completely new approach to hiding the item. If the former "proto-invisibility cloaks" were based on transformational metamaterials that do not exist in nature, with a very complex structure, which do not reflect the light falling on them, but force it to go around the hidden object, then a completely different mechanism and other materials work here.

It is based on the so-called plasmonic metamaterials (plasmons are quasi-particles, wave clusters in the crystal lattice, behaving like an independent particle). Their main feature in application to the physics of invisibility is that they scatter light differently from ordinary ones. If you make a mirror out of them, a person will see in it not his own reflection, but a negative. If you surround an object with such material (and, as it turns out, of any shape), then the light scattered by the object and the light scattered by the plasmon screen will destroy each other when they meet. Which was demonstrated in the experiment of the Texas group, and then published in the New Journal of Physics.

Professor Andrea Alu, who is leading the study, believes that plasmonic materials are much better suited to create invisibility than the metamaterials used in the past. According to him, they are incomparably more reliable and can operate in a wider light spectrum, although, we recall, the optical range is also not yet available to them. However, there are no physical prohibitions on the visible range, there are only purely technical barriers, therefore, according to Alu, his group is currently trying to expand the capabilities of its "invisible tube", including the ability to extend plasmonic invisibility to visible light.
